Gauteng PKTT have arrested an eighth suspect, Janitha van Reenen-Coetzee, who is alleged to be the mastermind behind illegal electricity connections and the theft of critical infrastructure at Emfuleni Local Municipality.

Supplier Arrested at Pretoria Mall for R16m Fleet Fraud After Only Seven of 18 Vehicles Delivered to Emfuleni Municipality Following Whistleblower Accountant's Murder

The Gauteng Political Killings Task Team has arrested a 40-year-old supplier linked to a R16 million fleet tender awarded by the Emfuleni Local Municipality. The suspect was taken into custody this afternoon at a mall in Pretoria after an investigation into the contract. He faces charges of corruption, fraud and theft.

The supplier was contracted to deliver 18 vehicles, including municipal trucks, but only seven were supplied to the municipality. The arrest follows the earlier detention of the municipality’s former fleet manager, who remains out on bail in the same matter. The 40-year-old is expected to appear in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 7 September 2026.

The case is connected to earlier reports by slain Emfuleni accountant Martha Mani Rantsofu, who flagged irregularities in the R16 million vehicle procurement before she was shot dead in Vanderbijlpark in March 2026. Police have confirmed she reported the tender concerns days before her murder, which is under investigation by the Political Killings Task Team.

The supplier’s court appearance next week marks the latest development in the ongoing probe. Investigators continue to examine the incomplete vehicle deliveries and related payments under the Emfuleni fleet tender.
