I smile at him. Still, he smiles back and I recognize such closeness won't last forever. These days are so short. The baby I knew yesterday won't be the child I experience tomorrow.
What a gift. I love him so.

When I saw him for the first time, he cried. Soft, gentle, as if he was breathing for the first time.
Love at first sight. I held him and couldn't believe the beauty, the detail, the perfection in every bit of his existence on this side of the womb.

He's five years old now.
He doesn't cry in the middle of the night but he still asks me to hold him. Still crawls up in my arms as if he was a baby who wants to know he's safe, protected, and loved.
Too many nights, I'm still tired. Empty. Like I have nothing to give.

I think we could all agree that daily there are articles, tweets and posts begging for attention and calling out for reaction. It can be exhausting to experience. But while we shouldn't always stand still or remain silent, we can ALWAYS rest in the truth that God is in control.
