This book absolutely ripped. Manchette can really write a breathtaking combat scene, create evocative characters. Everyone in this book is a piece of shit, & the amount of punch packed into a 90 pg crime novel astounds. In the words of Gary Indiana: viva Manchette!

Important note: he’s playing cello, not bass. Like offering an opinion on a tuna sandwich you just ate then having someone tell you it was actually a ham sandwich. You begin to question that person’s ability to judge sandwiches in general
Some morning solo bass. I think I’ve only played this one a few times. I don’t really like it. More classical than jazz; meanders along somberly with some brief bursts of bassy intensity. I’d probably trade it in but it’s an ECM so I’m bound contractually to keep it forever
