At long last, we’ve let one of our minor agony nexus swarms autonomously create the torment nexus from classic sci fi novel “Don’t Create The Torment Nexus”
@TheStalwart All good points but maybe trumped by “which political faction do you think will be most amenable to killer robots and panoptic surveillance?”
@TaylorLorenz “Should be forced” is fairly extreme? People can just tweet things, there aren’t laws about who can say what and I thought you were against that anyway
@joshtpm@AviMayer Kinda needs to be pointed out that “The kind of arrogance you're speaking from is the same kind that has contributed so much to getting Israel so deeply in the hole it's in with the American public” is hardly different from what Piker said in context. Do you condemn your remarks?
Here’s the full lancet article since some people claim it doesn’t exist. The fact that reading in low light causes myopathy was used by moral panic purveyors as further evidence that books were harmful should be restricted, not that everyone should get better lighting.
Also true if 95-2000 was your early twenties (I graduated college in 99.) Impossible to explain how different the vibe was, even if the foundations were always rotten
@TheStalwart Everyone is overly nostalgic about their teenage years, except people who were teens from 1995-2000, the actual best time to be alive in America.
@mattyglesias Sure it’s definitely the responsibility of AES supporters to acknowledge that the imaginary inference you’re pre-attributing to them would be false. Maybe an apology too
@mattyglesias Consider that you’re positioning do nothing centrism as equivalent to a rag tag bunch of fictional terrorist revolutionaries. Who believes more in their cause, leftists or centrists? It’s not even a legitimate question because the answer is so obvious. You winning is failure.
My dad is so good at arguing that even though he has dementia and everything he’s saying is verifiably false, somehow it still feels like he’s winning the argument
@mattyglesias Do you think there’s a reason why the analogy you reach for to describe politics is a game where the key skill is lying with a straight face?
@sethharpesq Thing is “writing computer code” means “can use a computer,” which means eventually automating millions of white collar jobs. It doesn’t have to be perfect, humans make mistakes too. So not a novelty, even if it never improved from what it can do now (which is obviously unlikely)
Times coverage of mamdani is like “the mayor makes decisions based on his clearly stated political and moral principles. Here’s why that’s really really bad”
