This ABB industrial arm swings car doors and hoods into place on a suspended assembly line, mounting each panel with the same precision every single time as vehicles move down the line one after another. The plant running this line reportedly saved close to $3.1 million annually in labor costs, since one robotic station now handles work that used to require an entire shift of assembly workers doing repetitive panel fitting all day.

Automotive assembly has used robotic arms for decades, but the real savings show up in consistency, a robot never misaligns a panel, never slows down near the end of a shift, and never calls in sick. That reliability compounds into massive savings across a full production year.

Plants running lines like this are proof that the auto industry has already automated far more of its labor force than most people realize.
