In my pantheon of music legends Ozzy Osbourne is seated at the summit. He embodied metal excess, a love of music, and doing it his way, all with a cheeky grin, but and just having a bloody good time. Didn’t hurt that I loved the music. Oh, and he was one of very few people who could say they helped create Heavy Metal!
My brother Paul White and I made the pilgrimage to the UK, only a few weeks ago to soak in an Ozzy / Black Sabbath performance one last time. We paid our respects, but we didn’t realise the end would be so soon. What a privilege, what an amazing day & something I’ll never forget.
Music unties and lifts us all. But it is the characters that take us on this journey, who add colour to the notes, and who make us feel we we can be something more than what we are. It’s moments like this that take you back to being that 13 year old in your bedroom listening to a Sabbath tape and dreaming of endless possibilities.
My sincere sympathies and condolences to Ozzy Osbourne’s family, friends, and all his fans.
To a life well lived.
