@MiriamPosein I think it would be very difficult, but maybe not impossibly if you took an approach that included culture in western medical practices. Education would be the first step though I agree... that might be difficult as well. I think building trust with community leaders will help.
@MiriamPosein This is true, I understand that we need to respect other people’s cultures/traditions and still give them the autonomy to practice their ways. governments in Africa should look into ways of respecting culture but also providing much needed treatment. Maybe partnerships can work
#TuesdayThoughts "We know that half of all adult mental health problems start by the age of 14, and 75% by the age of 18. It’s hard to think of a more compelling case for prioritising prevention": https://t.co/IcEtftPcvC
'We have a very, very narrow idea of what strength is...' @matthaig1 shares how 'toxic masculinity' can impact men's mental health. #GlobalMHSummit#TheWorldNeeds
Chores. Caring for siblings. Safety. Menstruation.
These are some of the issues that keep girls out of school and limit their potential. It shouldn't be this way. Both girls and boys deserve an opportunity to thrive!

Don’t forget MEN can get breast cancer too! So in light of Breast Cancer Awareness month, make sure your fellow male friends, fathers, brothers... are aware of the signs and symptoms and that they also get checked. #awareness#breastcancerawareness
As we know, October is designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We reflect on a nationwide drive by public & private healthcare structures to raise awareness of this devastating disease across all races. Make sure you have regular check-ups & mammograms. @GautengHealth
So other non-opioid treatment options for patients with chronic back pain are being disregarded by US insurance policies... do you guys think this is right? Or should all treatment options (acupuncture, psychological counseling...) be covered?
STUDY: Public and private health insurance policies in the U.S. are missing important opportunities to encourage the use of physical therapy, psychological counseling and other non-drug alternatives to opioid medication for treating lower back pain. https://t.co/KBjy6DrABT
I think child marriage is stealing the life of a child away from them. It is unfortunate that regardless of all the legislation that has been put in place to protect young girls, this remains an issue.#EndChildMarriage
@SPurpleAngel@HealthZA@DepartmentWomen@TheJusticeDept I honestly couldn’t agree more with what you’re saying. Also I think there needs to be support and awareness campaigns for male victims as they majority of the time won’t report because some might view them as less of a man if they do.
Do you guys think South Africa has a rape culture? And if yes, what do you think needs to be done to eliminate this culture? @HealthZA@DepartmentWomen@TheJusticeDept
When will this rape culture in South Africa stop? I’m tired of reading stories about children, women, girls, animals and boys/men getting raped. We need a better legal system to prevent this crime and appropriately punish those who commit it. #stoprape#stoprapeculture#justice
Therefore, should we ignore the child abduction that continues to grow in South Africa? 🤔Just cause the videos don’t prove that it happened in South Africa doesn’t mean that our country doesn’t have a growing human trafficking problem 😤
