🇨🇳 Xiaohongshu (小红书 / REDnote) user “金石_观 (AK47 版本” — presumably a 🇨🇳 little pink student at 🇬🇧 Durham University — filed a complaint with Ustinov College about the words “Lunar New Year” on its poster for Lunar New Year Formal (left half of upper right pic). The college administration responded and explained why “Lunar New Year” was used (right half of upper right pic). However, the 🇨🇳 little pink student wasn’t happy with the college’s reply and wrote another protest letter insisting it’s “Chinese New Year” (lower right pic).
She had been calling for a joint letter by 🇨🇳 students (screenshots in the next post).
She considers “Lunar New Year” to be an act of “cultural appropriation” (文化挪用) (left pic in the next post). In other words she’s thinking that Lunar New Year is an exclusively Chinese thing.

@aychteetee Why would u plea for westerner attention. If you want to speak up for your home, use a language that show the strength and mind of the country, not seeking for savior
@zomia1212 Everyone in Vietnamese LAD fandom has been telling each other to be cautious with their words tbh. We judge our ownshelves of insulting others. Now that I’m one of the brain-deformed retard, I stand out of this. Too much negativity from a northern superior nations😅
I don’t want to be rude but if people actually want to do a giveaway it’s called Lunar New Year not Chinese New Year. Why are we all celebrating New Year of the Chinese? We’re not Chinese and we happened to celebrate this because therể’s a lunar calendar. #RespectLunarNewYear
@zomia1212 What is the intention of Chinese when spamming this then? We Viet exploited Southern land in the past but never talk badly about them this dehumanising way?
@zomia1212 Can you come back to the point where the debate is still relevant and not trying to prove what wrong in term of evident usage not thesis statement? This is going nowhere
