Also, shop around for the best deal. See who offers the best interest rate AND closing cost. Some banks have promotions that cover some of the fees associated with closing cost. This could save you thousands!

Once you have a price range that you’re comfortable with, ONLY look at homes within that range. I don’t care how much HGTV you’ve watched, retrain your mind to be realistic. Marble floors and updated kitchens might not be for you. This is the hardest part for me!

Just because you get preapproved for an amount does NOT mean you have to purchase a home for that amount. My husband and I were approved for a loan for $90,000 more than what our home cost. We did not want so much of our money tied into a mortgage, especially for our first home.
