في لبنان، لم تعد المشكلة أنّ الحياة غالية. المشكلة أن ّاللبناني يد��ع ثمن دولة كاملة … ولا يحصل على دولة.
يدفع ضرائب ورسوماً، ثم يدفع من جديد للكهرباء لأنّ كهرباء الدولة لا تكفي. يدفع للمياه ثم يشتري المياه. يدفع للطبابة والتعليم والنقل والأمن والإنترنت، ويبحث بنفسه عن بدائل لكل خدمة يفترض أن تكون من أبسط وظائف الدولة.
بمعنى آخر، نحن لا ندفع فقط كلفة المعيشة. نحن ندفع كلفة غياب الدولة أيضاً. والأخطر أنّ هذا الغياب لم يعد استثناءً. أصبح نظاماً اقتصادياً واجتماعياً قائماً بذاته: دولة ضعيفة، وخدمات عامة متآكلة، وقطاع خاص يسدّ الفراغ، ومواطن يدفع الفاتورة من دخله ومدخّراته وأعصابه ومستقبل أولاده.
الأرقام لم تعد تسمح بتجميل الصورة. اقتصاد يُتوقّع أن ينكمش ٦،٤% هذه السنة، تضخّم متوقع عند ١٧،٥%، دين عام غير مستدام، قطاع مصرفي لا يزال منهكاً، وفقر أصاب أكثر من ثلث السكان. أما صندوق النقد الدولي، فيتحدث في تقريره الأخير عن فساد ممنهج وواسع، وعن مؤسسات ضعيفة، ورقابة مجزأة، وشبكات زبائنية، وهشاشة في حكم القانون.
هذه ليست أزمة أسعار. هذه أزمة دولة.
ولعلّ أكبر جريمة سياسية ارتُكبت بحق اللبنانيين هي أنّنا أقنعناهم بأنّ قدرتهم على التحمّل إنجاز وطني. سمّينا العجز "صموداً"، والحرمان "تأقلماً"، والهجرة "بحثاً عن فرص"، وقيام المواطن مقام الدولة "مبادرة فردية".
لا.
الصمود ليس سياسة عامة. والمولّد ليس خطة كهرباء. والصهريج ليس سياسة مياه. والهجرة ليست مشروعاً للشباب. والمساعدات ليست اقتصاداً. لقد أثبت اللبناني بما يكفي أنّه قادر على النجاة. السؤال اليوم ليس إن كان ��لمواطن يستطيع أن يتحمّل أكثر. السؤال هو: بأي حق تطلب منه السلطة أن يتحمّل أكثر؟ من يحاسب على الأموال التي دُفعت والخدمات التي لم تصل؟ من يحاسب على سنوات ضاعت، ومدخّرات تبخّرت، وشباب هاجروا، وعائلات أصبحت تؤمّن بنفسها ما وُجدت الدولة أصلاً لتؤمّنه؟
لا يمكن أن نبني جمهورية على بطولة شعبها اليومية في مواجهة فشل مؤسساتها. اللبناني لا يريد أن يكون بطلاً كل صباح كي يعيش حياة طبيعية. يريد دولة. فقط دولة. دولة تحترم ماله، ووقته، وكرامته، ومستقبله.
وبعد كل ما دفعه اللبنانيون، ربما حان الوقت لأن نطرح السؤال الذي تخشاه الطبقة السياسية أكثر من أي سؤال آخر: أين ذهبت الدولة … ومن سيحاسب على غيابها؟

There is a category of people no one is talking about today: those who turned 64 during Lebanon’s seven years of crisis and were forced into retirement.

Many had been salaried employees their entire lives. They worked for more than 40 years and did everything they were supposed to do, only to see the money they had earned over those decades (including the end-of-service indemnity meant to sustain them in retirement) evaporate in the banks.

They are now trapped between being unable to access their deposits (or being forced to withdraw parts of them at massive discounts) and being unable to find work again because of their age and Lebanon's brutal job market, instead of enjoying their hard-earned retirement.

Lebanon still does not have a functioning pension system. The social protection law adopted to replace the current end-of-service indemnity system has yet to enter into effect, and even when it does, those who have already retired will not benefit from it. So who is taking care of these people today?

Many are surviving by gradually liquidating the assets they accumulated over a lifetime, particularly real estate. What happens once there is nothing left to sell? (1/3)

I'm honestly very fkn upset!

Israel's Defense Minister just blatantly said they will occupy 10% of Lebanon even AFTER the war, and over 600k people that have their homes there cannot return!

And also today, Netanyahu is saying that after the Iran war, the Strait of Hormuz needs to be bypassed using pipelines from Saudi to the Mediterranean

I'm trying to be objective on everything, but after the destruction of Gaza, recent unwarranted bombing of Syria a few days ago, and now this, I am struggling to remain objective!

Israel needs to reconsider its foreign policy or the cycle of violence won't stop!

You cannot occupy Lebanon and expect the Government to disarm the militia that was founded BECAUSE of Israeli occupation decades ago!

You cannot bomb Syria non stop and expect the people and the Government to sit idly and normalize relations

You cannot wipe out Gaza and keep occupying it, then pass a law where the death penalty applies to Palestinians and not Israelis, and expect Palestinians to not be radicalized and fight back

You cannot expect to bomb Iran, then propose a pipeline that benefits you, and expect the Arab world to become allies

I want Hezbollah gone. I want the Iranian regime gone. I want Palestinian radicalization gone. But this is NOT the way to do it!

This is NOT the way to achieve peace in the region!
