I can’t believe it’s been a full year since my 7-year-old cousin Sama was killed in the airstrike that wiped out her home, and 16 members of her family.
Among them was her grandmother, Fatima. Fatima was my great aunt. I called her “Sitti.” It means “grandmother.”
Fatima was killed in that same strike, along with two of her daughters and their children.
Just a day before the bombing, I posted here on X about their house being surrounded by Israeli tanks and soldiers. The house was under siege. No one intervened. No one came to save them.
I took this photo of Sama in June 2022, during Eid.
Sama’s body, along with three other children, was buried that same day. The rest, including my great aunt, remain beneath the rubble of what used to be a four-story home.
One year later, their bodies are still trapped under the ruins.
Will anyone help recover them?
To the guarantors of the “ceasefire,” does human dignity mean anything to you?
I mean the location of their bodies is known. It can be shared as soon as you start caring about the dignity of the Palestinian people.

Israel is on a rampage in Gaza. Over 54 Palestinians have been killed already today. At least 77 killed the day before. Another journalist killed—Hasan Samour, along with 11 members of his family. Mass displacement orders in Gaza City. European hospital bombed and shuttered.
No food, aid, or fuel have entered Gaza since March 2.
Community kitchens have closed. Children are sick, thirsty, and starving.
Now Netanyahu’s government wants to occupy Gaza and shut down the existing aid distribution system run by the UN and its humanitarian partners.
Arms embargo now.
Liberals still don't get that one of the reasons their coalition is weak is because they have (at best) shrugged their shoulders at Israel's genocide in Gaza.
For almost a month, not a single drop of humanitarian aid has entered Gaza because of Israel's blockade. UNRWA has warned that Gaza’s flour stores will likely run out completely before the end of this week. https://t.co/BbUCU8Gal6
A shocking low for the #EU: one of its top leaders stands with Israel’s foreign minister, representing a state responsible for killing 50,000 people (in 16 months), 70% women and children, with Western made weapons, while over 200,000 more may die from life destroying conditions. All this as Israeli leaders openly call for ethnic cleansing. And the analytical framework Ms Kallas uses is :"both-sides" "in a new war".
This, in Jerusalem, part of which remains unlawfully occupied. And not a word about Israel's obligation to end its unlawful presence in the next 6 months as ordered by the @CIJ_ICJ and #UNGA.
Under int'l law, states (and by extention organisations of states) MUST NOT recognize as lawful, or support, unlawful endeavours, yet that is exactly what this visit does.
Why is the press not raising any of this?

When Americans on Christmas sing “Oh Little Town of Bethlehem”, do they realize that their tax money and elected officials are contributing towards driving Christians out of the “little town of Bethlehem”
When, almost a full year ago, UNICEF called Gaza “a war on children”, we did so not out of hyperbole or for a headline, but because of hard evidence on the ground. Appallingly, as per below, such evidence of this war on children keeps mounting.

This Christmas, once again, we find ourselves reflecting on the meaning of Christmas through the image of Christ in the Rubble. Christ is still under the rubble in Gaza, as children are still being pulled from under the rubble in Gaza. It is heartbreaking that we are still calling and pleading for a ceasefire. Decision makers seem to be content with this war continuing as long as it has. They have decided that Palestinians are dispensable. 44700 killed (not including those under the rubble), including close to 17500 children. 87% of housing units are damaged. Thousands are physically handicapped. Millions are traumatized. It is literally hell on earth in Gaza. How many more need to be sacrificed before decision makers decide enough in enough? We insist: we see the image of Jesus in every child killed. They are precious to God.
May we unite this Christmas in lighting a candle for Gaza, and particularly for the children of Gaza. This is beyond symbolism. Let us unite in prayer, and commit ourselves to the cause of ending this genocidal war. We cannot stop talking about Gaza. We can stop advocating. Most importantly, we will not lose our faith and hope in God and the goodness and justice of God.
