A romance drama set in an alternate version of Korea ruled by a constitutional monarchy in the 21st century. The drama tells the story of chaebol heiress Sung Hee-joo (IU) who is frustrated by her ‘commoner’ status despite having everything, and melancholic royal prince Lee Wan (Byeon Woo-seok) who has nothing despite being the son of the king, as they forge to build their own destinies in a romance that breaks down social class barriers.

He is particularly close to Lee Wan, having grown up together as playmates (a relationship known as bae-dong, or childhood friends of a crown prince or grand prince), and they share a deep bond where they can speak openly with each other. Additionally, he is a senior at the royal academy to Sung Hee-joo. When Sung Hee-joo and Lee Wan enter a contract marriage, he finds himself conflicted and experiences inner turmoil.
