There are some sports where perfection can be attained, a new world record, or the maximum score in target sports, or when the judges award “perfect” scores in sports like gymnastics. But in any interactive sport, such as badminton, perfection is simply not possible to either define or attain as the athletes are not in complete control of their own performances, they must react and deal with what their opponents do.

In their prime The Daddies were probably as near to perfection as humanly possible. A new level of “excellence” aesthetically, ethically, tactically and technically.

Although clinical in their determination to win, The Daddies always displayed exemplary sportsmanship. They were wonderful to watch and good in all departments of the game appearing to have no weaknesses. They worked tirelessly for each other, complimenting each other’s strengths.

Both had a wonderful defence yet were also superb in attack. Ahsan’s speed and playmaking from the rear court, his clever placement and thunderous smashes delivered with body and soul set up countless opportunities for Setiawan to anticipate, intercept and play his vast array of winners from the front court.

Complimentary styles working in complete harmony. The Daddies were simply excellence personified.
