Yes, you read that right.

Sixteen months later, the men who put him in the hospital have never been arrested.

Not one.

His name is Michael Self.

For 14 years, he ran the Kroger on North Decatur Road in DeKalb County.

On the morning of Saturday, May 24th, 2025, around 8:20 a.m., masked shoplifters walked out of his store.

An elderly employee followed them outside.

Cellphone video shows what happened next. The masked suspects swung a bag of paper towels at her.

Then they SHOVED her.

Michael ran out to help her.

"I literally just wanted to draw the tension away from my associates, get them to stop and everybody just be done," he said.

"As I got away from that door, someone hit me in the back of the head with something."

The video shows him on the ground.

He left Emory University Hospital with a concussion and staples in his head.

AND IT GETS WORSE.

Three days later, Kroger fired him.

Yes, after fourteen years a father of three was TERMINATED FROM HIS JOB for trying to protect an elderly woman.

The reason?

"He violated the company's shoplifting policy."

The termination letter, Michael says, accused HIM of starting the fight.

"I didn't even get to talk to the people that decided to fire me," he said.

So the rule is: watch the elderly cashier get shoved in the parking lot.

Do nothing to help her.
Keep your job.

Step in? You're the problem and you're fired

OH, and the Black men in the masks?

DeKalb County police say the case is "still open."

No names.
No descriptions.
No arrests.
AFTER 16 months.

They beat an old woman, cracked a man's skull open, and walked away with paper towels and their freedom.

The only person who has faced any consequence for what happened in that parking lot is the man who tried to stop it.

Michael is finally telling his side of the story because he is still fighting to clear his name and still looking for work.

I know we don’t have a U.S. Senate debate scheduled in North Carolina…

This is an open seat. @RoyCooperNC is running after eight years as governor. @WhatleyNC is the Republican nominee. We already know where Whatley stands. What voters have not gotten is both men on the same stage answering the same questions.

Cooper’s record is not a mystery. Crime. Schools. Taxes. Energy costs. Helene recovery in western North Carolina. Those are fair questions after eight years in Raleigh. Put him next to Whatley and let people hear it without the handlers.

And no, North Carolina does not “just skip Senate debates.”

The last time the two major nominees did not debate was 1998, when Lauch Faircloth refused to debate John Edwards.

Since then we have had them:

2014 — Tillis vs. Hagan
2016 — Burr vs. Ross
2020 — Tillis vs. Cunningham
2022 — Budd vs. Beasley

If Cooper and Whatley never debate, it would be the first miss in almost 30 years.

Whatley has said he is happy to debate. Cooper said his team is “happy to sit down and discuss the potential for a debate.” November 3 is not that far off. Raleigh. Charlotte. Asheville. Pick a city and show up.

If you want to represent 10 million North Carolinians, you can stand in front of them for 90 minutes. If you will not, voters should notice.

Demand a debate.

🚨#BREAKING: Outrage is erupting in Charlotte NC after a Black woman who ran a RED LIGHT, hitting a 25-year-old White man out for a run, and DROVE AWAY while he DIED ON THE STREET...

...was sentenced to ONLY 30 DAYS in jail.

Yes, you read that right... THIRTY DAYS.

His name was Lance Sotelo.

Lance grew up in Dalton, Georgia, and was a cross-country MVP in high school.

He came to Queens University of Charlotte and ran cross country and track and field for SIX YEARS.

He was the student body president.

On January 14th, Lance was doing the thing he loved most, he was out for a run in Charlotte NC

At 5:47 in the evening, police say 28-year-old Q'Laundra Hood was ran a red light and she hit him, hard.

...and then she drove away.

She left him in the road and kept going.

Lance Sotelo died right there on the streets of Charlotte.
He never even made it to a hospital.

He didn't have life insurance, his family had to start a GoFundMe just to bury their son.

Hood turned herself in and pleaded guilty to felony hit-and-run and involuntary manslaughter.

And on Tuesday, a courtroom packed with Lance's family and friends watched the judge hand down the sentence.

30 days in jail. And probation.

Thirty days and $765 restitution.
