BREAKING NEWS: The US just attacked Iraq. Rumours of a US airstrike southwest of Baghdad circulated within the last two hours and an official just confirmed it to Reuters.

The US is rigidly following its "blame the victim" policy. The strike, which killed four people, was "self-defense", a US official told the news agency. "The strike was carried out because of a threat to US-led coalition forces."

However, there has been no indication of any Iraqi attacks on the US. The only recent friction was yesterday, when Iraqis complained that a sniper at the US Embassy in Baghdad had shot an Iraqi woman in a residential complex nearby.

The US attack follows just hours after Israel launched attacks on both Lebanon and Gaza.

US-backed Israel killed 12 Palestinians after firing US bombs at the entrance of the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza last night—part of a nine-day ground assault that has caused 300 deaths.

Israel also carried out an airstrike on Beirut, killing three civilians and wounding 74 people, local authorities said. This last strike is presented as retaliation for an attack which killed children in the Golan Heights – however, there is significant doubt that Hezbollah was involved, even in the west.

Lowkey, a UK activist, said: "The same time Israel targeted Lebanon tonight, the US Air Force was bombing Iraq. All for the crime of refusing to let Gaza die alone."
