World Cup Outright Bet
Golden Ball - Cristiano Ronaldo 33/1 🇵🇹
This might be his final World Cup. His SIXTH World Cup. And if history tells us anything, Golden Ball voters love a storyline.
Recent winners haven’t just been the best players statistically. They’ve been the faces of the tournament:
🇦🇷 Messi (2022)
🇭🇷 Modrić (2018)
🇦🇷 Messi (2014)
🇺🇾 Forlán (2010)
🇫🇷 Zidane (2006)
The common theme between the past winners seems to be if they had a deep tournament run & iconic narrative.
Portugal arrive as genuine contenders with arguably the strongest squad in their history. Vitinha, Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, João Neves and Nuno Mendes provide quality all over the pitch, but Ronaldo remains the focal point.
Despite turning 41, he’s still Portugal’s main man in front of goal. He finished as Portugal’s top scorer in qualifying and continues to be the player this team looks towards in the biggest moments. With elite creators around him, the chances will come.
If Portugal make a run to the semi-finals or final and Ronaldo is the one delivering the decisive goals, the narrative writes itself. A sixth and final World Cup. One of the greatest the game has ever seen. One last shot at football immortality on the biggest stage of all.
Not at all my logic. The point I made was that he doesn’t need to create for Bayern *because* they have world class playmakers, he can just do his job and be a striker…. As said in the write up England don’t have world class playmakers in their expected lineup…hence the opportunity for Kane!
World Cup Outright Bet
Most Assists - Harry Kane 50/1 🏴
(E/W 4 Places)
England are expected to line up with Rice, Anderson and Bellingham in midfield.
That’s a midfield packed with athleticism, control, ball-winning ability and ball-carrying. But what it’s missing is a natural creative No.10, and that’s where Harry Kane comes in.
He often drops into midfield, links play, receives between the lines and releases runners beyond him. In many ways, he performs the role that a traditional playmaker would for other nations.
The players around him make this even more interesting.
Saka, Rashford, Gordon and Bellingham all want to run beyond the striker. Kane’s vision and passing range are perfectly suited to finding them, and England’s attack is increasingly built around those movements.
England are also expected to have a favourable route through the group stage and are among the favourites to reach the latter rounds, potentially giving Kane 7-8 matches to accumulate assists.
Factoring in these points:
- No natural creative No.10 behind him
- Elite passing and vision
- Surrounded by runners
- Likely to play every meaningful minute
- England expected to go deep
Makes this worth a small play
@EternalSunrise7 Different systems, different players. He doesn’t need to be a creator in the Bayern side when they have arguably two of the most creative wingers in the world in Olise & Diaz….
Looks like there’s good interest in this, here’s the link: https://t.co/ACp0VLCypR
The group is hosted by @jahtips & I and we will be around to talk about games, outrights and bets throughout the World Cup as well as all of you guys! ⚽️🏆
World Cup Outright
FIFA Young Player Award - Endrick 16/1 🇧🇷
This award has always been heavily influenced by narrative, profile and big moments. It’s not simply about who plays the best football.
The Brazilian wonderkid has been carrying superstar expectations since his early teens, secured a move to Real Madrid before turning 18 and is already one of the most recognisable young players in world football.
What’s interesting is that Brazil’s No.9 position isn’t completely locked down, so there is still an opportunity for Endrick to make the role his own on the biggest stage.
Brazil are expected to progress comfortably from their group, giving Endrick a genuine chance to produce numbers early in the tournament. Goals, assists and highlight-reel moments against weaker opposition are exactly the sort of performances that put young players at the front of voters’ minds.
And that’s important because this is ultimately a PR award.
If a teenage Real Madrid striker helps Brazil to a deep run while producing a few memorable moments along the way, the media narrative almost writes itself.
There are plenty of talented contenders, but very few can match these factors:
Real Madrid profile
Brazil’s chances of going deep
Favourable early fixtures
Global hype and recognition
A realistic route to significant minutes
Worth a small play.
@BattleSphaira Yeah get your point mate, for 200/1 this was too big to not have a look at. Keep your eye out today for other outrights which are smaller in price but do take into account the gap in level of opposition 👍
World Cup Outright
Top Goalscorer - Patrik Schick 200/1 🇨🇿
(E/W 4 Places)
Schick has tournament pedigree, is on penalties and has a favourable enough group to nick 3 to 4 goals early.
Czechia are in Group A with Mexico, South Africa and South Korea. That is not an impossible group, and South Africa especially looks like the key game for goals.
Schick’s historic tournament goals are inconsistent but he scored 5 goals at Euro 2020, finishing joint-top scorer with Ronaldo. He also has strong club form, averaging 0.7 goals per game for Leverkusen over the past 2 seasons.
In the last 5 world cups, you’ve only needed 4 goals to be in the top 3 scorers of the competition. So this is a big price for a proven striker.
