@Afghan_DNA Not sure if it means anything but my closest STR match (distant) is Dotani and I recently had a Hotak show up as a ~15cm match on Ancestry.
Major cheat code for life: Make peace with being unimpressive to the outside world. Drive the normal car. Wear the simple clothes. Live below your means. Stay in the committed relationship. The ability to look ordinary while building an extraordinary life is wildly underrated.
you must believe you are special and then go so hard, for so long, with such violent refusal to accept any other ending, that reality itself starts running out of ways to tell you no. you must wage a war daily against the ordinary outcome, until the belief you invented out of nothing in a room by yourself has been hammered into the world so many times that it stops being a claim and becomes reality.
@SARMYthedj@CovaxSd I think when people cancel, the system frees up their slot. I suspect it means that dose is available but not sure how the appt works.
@ZaidJilani I wrote a short blog about that.
(I've been calling attention to Pakistan's unbelievable numbers since summer 2020 but experts don't seem to be interested)

@davidmarcus1 @youyanggu@apoorva_nyc My theory: non-homogeneous contact networks + over-dispersion + weather. 10% of people cause 80% of spread. Those 10% saturate quickly, we get a dip. Weather changes. New contact networks form. Surge. That saturates: dip. Rinse and repeat.
@phl43 but the western managerial class - for various complex reasons - went with experts who inverted those coefficients and refused to change course, and in fact doubled down, when evidence to the contrary seemed to be clear by mid-2020?
@phl43 what's there to argue besides the fact that covid impact is on the one hand a function of over-dispersion, population heterogeneity and demographics and on the other hand, individual behavior and a year of worldwide data shows that the former should carry > 90% of the weight ...
"Some medical experts privately agreed... there may be very little Covid-19 by April but suggested I not talk publicly about herd immunity b/c people might become complacent.. Scientists shouldn’t try to manipulate the public by hiding the truth."
Wow.

@LucioMM1 considering how little attention and introspection the across-the-board & unprecedented decline in the US - despite holiday travel & re-opening - has attracted, I've lost all hope that reality matters any more.
@LucioMM1 wouldn't the counter-argument be that we have to wait two more weeks until we can draw any conclusions. and by the time those two weeks arrive, it'll be "yeah whatever scary variants blah blah"
