Alongside @ahrcpress' response mode schemes (Curiosity, Catalyst & Standard) I'm excited to be introducing our new initiative - Mission. This scheme will support projects of £2-3m and act as a vehicle to harness a team-led approach, broadening the diversity of our funded projects, organisations and individuals. We have been working with Prof Georgina Enfield, @LivUni, @AdvanceHE, @ResEngland and the THRIVE project to drive for more inclusive people-centred research approaches across the sector. The importance of collaboration and innovation in the Humanities cannot be over-stated. I am humbled to have been elected as Chair of the HERA- Humanities in the European Research Area Network, a coalition of 24 national funding agencies dedicated to leading and developing funding opportunities for #humanities researchers across #Europe. And it gives me much pleasure to announce Prof Jenny Wüstenberg as Knowledge Exchange Fellow to lead a three-and-a-half-year programme titled "Knowledge Exchange for Slow Hope". Her work will sit alongside the 'Crisis – Perspectives of the Humanities' Research Grants programme.

Together with our partners across Europe, we have an extraordinary opportunity to shape a transformative and equitable future for humanities research. With Cluster Partnerships on the horizon, this is tangibly close. We must continue to think strategically to ensure we have flourishing capabilities right across the arts and humanities to contribute to and underpin the broader science agenda. This requires sustaining a broad ecosystem of curiosity driven open call funding, alongside a strategic focus on the most pressing issues of our time.

Here's hoping that 2025 is as peaceful and holds as much promise and warmth as this Teguisian sunrise. It reminded me of a mantra from the Taittiriya Upanishad:

A very special morning at Raizes do Brazil (https://t.co/pFpQpQYLQ8) a café run by the Small Farmers Movement (MPA) as an organized space to integrate peasant agroecology and urban society. every Saturday they serve a delicious Café Camponês and brunch, made with organic and locally grown produce, to further an ethos of food sovereignty - cooked and served with love. Thank you to @jemfiori for the wonderful introduction to the intricately complex neighbourhood of Santa Teresa in Rio de Janeiro - a neighborhood of striking contrasts, where colonial mansions and cobblestone streets sit alongside favelas, and bohemian artists mingle with long-time residents and tourists. Its vibrant culture and iconic landmarks mask deep social inequalities and ongoing tensions over gentrification and urban development. Both a haven of creativity and a battleground for urban justice, Santa Teresa perhaps embodies the complexity of #Rio itself.

Wonderful listening in to @MazzucatoM at the @IDS_UK's Annual Lecture. The driving message for me is to call out how as a society we have privatised reward but socialised risk - this is a complex message, requiring a nuanced understanding of how innovation actually happens, and how engaged the research ecosystem and industry are. Much to think about...
