According to multiple sources, some naturalized players are unable to register for the Japan women’s national volleyball team. Previously, players who had been naturalized could join their new country’s national team after two years. However, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has changed its rules: players who represented a senior national team in their Federation of Origin (FoO) can no longer represent another country’s national team.

If players were in the process of naturalization or had similar extenuating circumstances, they likely could have been exempted from this new rule. However, according to sources, a representative from the Japan Volleyball Association (JVA) may have overlooked the grace period and failed to take the necessary procedural steps.

The JVA reportedly formed a third-party committee, but has neither announced it publicly nor released any findings.
