1. Cant get it to show all unread without doing a freaking search ffs
2. Cant even get it to at least create a smart folder with just the unread
3. No popup window on new messages?! Only compact (tiny AF) or fullscreen (history blind)

It has to do with wether or not I believe it is necessary (especially when the product is my baby and Im leading it). I also do it when Im about to miss a deadline and it’s my fault

I’m saying it’s a valid assessment process if done properly & not just free work. But yes, IMO if you want to do a live coding session to assess skill, and you don’t do it in the context of a simplified version of stuff they’ll be working on then your process is broken

Well a surgeon has to obtain a license to do it, & thats after a process that takes years. Thankfully software jobs dont require a license so u have to prove yourself somehow. And yes someone can have 10 years of XP and great software knowledge and still be a VERY shitty coder

Dont get me wrong I dont like and dont do the “sort a binary tree for me” thing. I’m not saying live coding is always needed or that it should be done with stupid algorithmic questions that have nothing to do with the actual day to day work the new hire would be doing
