Nobody serious is saying eliminate petroleum as a chemical input. The goal is to stop burning it for energy, which is what ~70% of every barrel goes to - when we've had alternatives for decades.

And we've had them for decades. Carter funded solar R&D in the '70s. We had cap-and-trade legislation. We had carbon pricing proposals. We had the Kyoto Protocol. We had Paris.
Republicans killed every single one. Defunded renewables. Filibustered climate bills. Handed billions in subsidies to fossil fuels while strangling clean energy in the crib. Installed industry lobbyists to run the agencies meant to regulate them. Pulled out of international agreements. Twice.

Fifty years of deliberate, systematic obstruction - then pointing at our continued dependence and saying "See? We can't change."

That's not pragmatism. That's sabotage marketed as realism.

So respectfully, and I cannot stress this enough: go fuck yourself.
