I guess I don't think its such a bad thing that rich families can pay huge sums of money to get their kids into an elite school. Its probably a good thing if 1 somewhat unqualified rich kid ends up paying for 5 super qualified kids who couldn't otherwise afford it.
@MinusPeach “It’s like musical chairs. When the music stops, there aren’t enough chairs for everyone and any left standing loses. What if instead of adding more chairs so everyone can win, we changed the rules so that the people sitting from last round never stood up for the next players.”
Why can’t I sell my house, keep all the money, then use that money to buy a new house? Why do I need to close one mortgage and open up a new mortgage…I’ve already been loaned a house worth of money from the bank. Presumably that’s my money so long as I keep making payments.
@ItsDanSheehan Show up at the primaries, put in the work early and get a true progressive into a position to win. If you don't get the momentum you need by the general, vote for the least worst candidate that actually has a chance of winning.
accepting a job offer is insane behavior. you're committing to drastically change your life based on knowing maybe 10% of what you're actually agreeing to
@jlmorrison @ericacbarnett Same thing they do in pretty much every other city in the world: put gates/turnstyles at the entrance to the train stations. Give free/reduced Orca card to anyone who needs it. Empower fare enforcement to remove people from the train if they are being grossly antisocial.
@ericacbarnett Surely it’s reasonable to hold the ideas “house everyone and help compassionately treat addiction” and “don’t allow people to do drugs on public transit” in one’s head at the same time??
