My wife and I just hit one year, and one of the biggest things we’ve taken away from our pre marriage course was figuring out what each of us owns around the house.

She’s an amazing cook, so I’m more than happy to clean up after. I usually handle the more labor intensive projects and chores.

Also, hiring a cleaner every other week...

ABSOLUTE GAME CHANGER.

The most common mistake I see with people who have equity comp is not taking the time to review what you actually have.

Start with 4 questions:

1. What of equity do I own? --- Most likely RSUs, NSOs, or ISOs. (All different tax outcomes)
2. What is the vesting schedule and expiration date? --- Know when it becomes yours
3. What would it cost to exercise? -- Options are not always free. It can require a chunk of cash
4. What tax could be triggered by an exercise or sale? --- Relates to #1. The tax treatment depends on the type of equity, how much you own, and when you exercised, vested, or sold.

You don't need to be an expert. But PLEASE, before making any decisions, start by understanding what you have.
