This week I’ve been facilitating #emotionalintelligence workshops for adults.
People are open to talking about self-awareness, relationships, communication, & emotional regulation.
But beneath the surface, I’m reminded how deeply adult struggles are rooted in #adolescence.

They learn the way to stay safe is to appear okay.
And expressing pain leads to lectures, not listening.
Connection isn't created through conversation alone, BUT through the quality of presence we bring to it.
This is LEARNED.

What did we miss?
It's the question haunting parents across Kenya right now.
Bright children. Loving families. No visible signs of anything wrong. And then one day, they are gone.
Most young people who are struggling don't look like they're struggling.

The most powerful online safety tool we have is the quality of the relationship between young people and the adults in their lives.

She was a normal #teenager.
Good student. Loving family. Active on social media.
And then she met someone online who made her feel seen in a way the people around her weren't managing to.
By the time the danger became visible, it was too late.

You work with young people. But nobody trained you to coach them.
There's a difference between working with young people and knowing how to coach them.

You haven't stopped in a long time.
Not really stopped.
You've had holidays. You've slept in on a Saturday. But somewhere between the deadlines and the people, you've forgotten what it feels like to actually EXHALE.

The myth that men are less emotional than women is exactly that... a MYTH.
In a safe space, men speak openly about fear, grief, loneliness, and shame.
The issue isn't a lack of emotion. It's a lack of vocabulary and safe spaces to use it.

My highest-performing clients are often the most exhausted.
15+ years of #coachingmaleexecutives has taught me: success doesn't protect men from emotional struggle.
Many cope silently. Distress shows up as working longer hours, withdrawal, or emotional shutdown.

The emotional realities beneath parent-child conflict.
How do you build trust with young people?
How does coaching bridge the gap?

Your child is sitting next to you. And you've never felt more alone.
Not because they don't love you. But because you gave them the freedom to think for themselves, and now...they think very differently from you, causing a rift.
This is more common than anyone admits.

When young people burn down dormitories, we call it criminality.
BUT what drives a young person to burn down the place they live and study?
Desperation? A feeling that nobody is listening?

A parent paid fees to take their child to school.
Then got a call no parent should receive.
Their child was in court. Facing charges of arson.
Actions that could alter the course of their entire life.
How does a parent make sense of that?

Young people don’t need more adults with good advice. They need adults who know how to help them discover their own answers.

You know that feeling when someone comes to you with a problem?
You listen carefully. You give them your best advice based on everything you’ve learned.
They thank you. You feel helpful.
Then a few weeks later, they’re back. Same problem.
“What should I do now?”

What to do instead:
Instead of “Here’s what you should do,” ask: “What do you think you should do?”
Instead of “Let me solve this,” ask: “What have you tried so far?”
