Postponing UPSC prelims isn’t an unreasonable ask. Students in border areas are hearing sirens every night, power is out for hours, and libraries are shut. One student mailed me that she can’t sleep, can’t study, just trying to stay calm. This isn’t a level playing field.

If civil services demand empathy, the exam should reflect it too. @DoPTGoI it’s not too late to do the right thing.

And to the students: I empathize deeply but all you can do is hope for the best and prepare with whatever you have. Unfortunately, this is what the times are.

वर्तमान परिस्थितियों में भारत के ऊपर बनाए गए अंतरराष्ट्रीय दबाव को देखकर मेरे बचपन के दो वाकये याद आते हैं जिसमें भारत ने सभी अंतरराष्ट्रीय दबावों को पीछे छोड़ कर कार्रवाई की थी।

ये 1961 की बात है जब मैं छठवीं कक्षा में था। 1961 तक गोवा राज्य पुर्तगाल के कब्जे में था। इसके भारत में विलय के लिए पंडित नेहरू की सरकार ने सैन्य ऑपरेशन विजय शुरू किया। पुर्तगाल NATO का ‌सदस्य देश था इसलिए पुर्तगाल के इलाके में सैन्य ऑपरेशन NATO के खिलाफ माना जाता और भारत पर पश्चिमी देश आक्रमण कर सकते थे। अमेरिका के राजदूत ने भी पंडित नेहरू से मिलकर सैन्य कार्रवाई न करने का अनुरोध किया परन्तु पंडित नेहरू की दृढ़ इच्छाशक्ति एवं सेना के शौर्य ने पुर्तगालियों को खदेड़ दिया और गोवा का भारत में विलय किया।

जब मैं यूनिवर्सिटी में आया यानी 1974 तक सिक्किम चोग्याल राजवंश का एक स्वतंत्र राजतंत्र था। यहां की महारानी अमेरिका की रहने वाली थीं जिस वजह से सिक्किम को अमेरिका का समर्थन था। 1974 में इन्दिरा गांधी की सरकार ने सिक्किम के भारत में विलय के लिए अभियान चलाया। तब अमेरिका ने भारत पर दबाव डाला और कार्रवाई तक की चेतावनी दी परन्तु इन्दिरा जी ने इस सबको अनदेखा कर सिक्किम को भारत का हिस्सा बनाया।

पूर्व में भारत कभी अंतरराष्ट्रीय दबाव के आगे नहीं झुका इसलिए ही हम देशवासियों के गले यह बात नहीं उतर रही है कि अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति ने सीजफायर का ऐलान कैसे कर दिया। यह तो पूरी तरह हमारी सरकार का निर्णय होना चाहिए था।

इन्दिरा जी के समय से ही भारत की नीति है कि भारत-पाकिस्तान के मामले में किसी तीसरे पक्ष का दखल नहीं होगा। हाल में हुए सैन्य ऑपरेशन पर अमेरिका के दखल से पूरा देश चिंतित है कि ऐसी क्या मजबूरी रही जिससे केन्द्र सरकार ने किसी तीसरे देश को दखल देने दिया।

UPSC should seriously consider postponing the CSE Prelims

I know many aspirants from border areas who have been affected by the recent tensions

Expecting them to appear for the exam in such a stressful mental state is not reasonable.

1. Armed forces officers writing the UPSC this year now can't.
2. Students in border/sensitive areas face blackouts and internet shutdowns.
3. Unwise to divert admin and forces to help conduct
the exam when we are on alert.
4. UPSC Test Centres may be vulnerable.
The agency responsible for recruiting empathetic civil services should be inclusive.
Please, UPSC, @DoPTGoI, postpone the Prelims. This is not fair to so many people. Its still not too late.
