Airlink pilots are used to flying to St. Helena, 3 times a week if I still remember correctly. They can do that Cape Town stadium flypast with eyes closed 😂
They land in a violently windy and mountainous tiny island all the time!

I am fascinated by buildings that simulate the appearance of granular ownership. It's almost evolutionary, like a kind of architectural mimicry, where a building adopts the visible traits associated with something the market already recognizes as valuable.
Developers understand the extraordinary real-estate appeal of fine-grained neighborhoods ... the rhythm of small buildings, separate entrances, different façades, and the accumulated irregularity that comes from many owners making decisions over many decades.
Those qualities signal diversity, adaptability, and authenticity because, historically, they were produced by genuinely fragmented ownership and incremental development.
But our development system doesn't produce that underlying condition anymore. So instead it reproduces the appearance of it. One enormous project is broken into visual “buildings.” Materials change every thirty feet. The cornice line goes up and down, and they add more entrances to LOOK like individual entrances (but they just lead to common corridors). The façade performs the identity that the property structure no longer contains.
But the fact that developers so often try to create the appearance of granularity is a sign that the market still values the fine-grained city. The clearest sign, of course, is the premiums that people pay to live in legitimately fine-grained neighborhoods.
