Top female police officer Mariama Barry has been promoted to deputy superintendent of police. She is among the few female officers in the Gambia police force to achieve this rank, thanks to her exceptional leadership skills.
Barry has been a positive influence on many young women officers in the Gambia Police Force. She is a strong advocate for women's rights, empowerment, and equality. In 2018, she was honored with the Nelson Mandela Fellowship and proudly attended the program in Washington, DC, United States.
Barry's policing career has been unwavering, and she is known for her advocacy for justice and equality in democratic policing. Her personal growth and impact on others reflect her dedication and determination to make a difference in pursuing a better future for her country and its people.
Despite facing challenges, including an attack on her duty station in Nyala, Barry's willpower and determination have been unwavering. She continues to work passionately against violence targeting women and girls. With her unique approach to her work and strong sense of self-worth, she has the potential to become a leader in the Gambia Police Force. Her intelligence, courage, and willingness to speak out are a testament to her character.
