Social [media] for me is a very positive [thing]. [my] exposure [to] anything gay was through the internet and was an introduction to people being comfortable. It’s wide reach was beneficial but there is variety of older gay people on the internet that can give more of a history.
Recently, identities have been more monetized and [it] feels that we are being exploited. Micro labels are helpful for identity but feels that they are pushing people into a box due to labels. TikTok has caused some of this.
“This is where the internet helped me understand that what i was feeling was normal. The internet helped me learn about other sexualities which eventually led to me zeroing in on bisexuality, my sexuality. I was able to meet people like me and really feel accepted and understood.

1. Do you agree with this claim?
“yes and no, yes because it exposes you to more of a community that you might not have known existed cause from where I was from I didn’t have that”
2. How the internet has had an effect on you?
“Because of where/how I grew up I didn’t know about bisexuality and neither did my mother so when I began liking a girl while also liking a guy I was really confused.“
“no because it also opens up that space where you can be ridiculed by a community on a whole other level because theres the whole ‘people are braver behind a screen’”
2. How the internet has had an effect on you?
“…being online has taught me that having individualized experiences is okay its okay to not want to ever come out and its okay to experiment…its a great thing that the internet has made that more popularizrd as a process.”
Jasmine, She/They, 19, Sapphic
1. Do you agree with our claim made?
“There are definitely two sorts of facets [of the internet]…there are places that people can have a sense of community and togetherness with, but it has created a discord of sort.”
“The internet can be a place for LGBTQ+ youth to find peers with shared identities, and receive affirming support from others without judgement.” (https://t.co/1okgQVwKjY) #SafePlaceforGays#yesQueen#ENC1143 @ZariParti @Josejr2024
