It is astonishing & deplorable to see how some prominent TV media channels kept broadcasting fake & unverified news throughout the news purely for sensationalism & TRPs.

It is also shocking because this was done at a time when India is facing an armed attack by the enemy & the entire nation is in a state of anxiety.

The Govt of India as well our Armed Forces have been constantly appealing against sharing of unverified news. Despite that, TV channels chose to broadcast fake unverified “breaking news updates” which led to an unnecessary burden on our Armed Forces to constantly issue clarifications while they’re busy protecting our nation.

Some channels even shamelessly branded a victim of Pakistani shelling in Poonch as a “terrorist”.

Incidentally, a few days ago, the Parliament Standing Committee on Communications & IT (of which I’m a Member) conducted a hearing with major media stakeholders on the issue of “fake news.” It seems that despite all their assurances to Parliament, certain TV channels chose the path of sensationalism last night in complete disregard towards public interest & national security.

My office is in the process of issuing notices to the said TV channels calling for a clarification on this under extant regulatory provisions. Meanwhile, this issue will also be flagged to the Parliament Committee for its consideration & examination.

At this sensitive hour, it is the DUTY of every Indian to stand with our Armed Forces & to behave in a responsible manner.

TV channels that are trying to make profits through sensationalism & exploiting an attack by the enemy on our nation, especially when our brave Armed Forces are fighting for us, is UNACCEPTABLE & must face serious action.

मेरे पिता प्राय: एक राजस्थानी कहावत सुनाया करते थे :

बारा बामण, बारा इ राह।
बारा खाती, एक ही बाह।

(बाह यानी सार, निचोड़, निर्णय।)

यानी बारह ब्राह्मण होंगे तो बारह ही रास्ते होंगे। लेकिन बारह शिल्पकार होंगे तो उनका निर्णय एक ही होगा।

यानी ब्राह्मण न खु़द एक होते हैं और न किसी को एक रहने देते हैं। वे किसी तर्क को भी नहीं मानते। आप भले वेदों का उदाहरण दे दो। वे उस शब्द का किसी और शास्त्र से नया अर्थ प्रस्तुत कर देंगे। यह अच्छी बात नहीं है। विज्ञान तो उनके किसी भी पुराण के सामने हेच है।

लेकिन समाज में ऐसे सुविज्ञ कला-कौशल ज्ञाता भी हैं, जिन्हें ब्राह्मण भले समकक्ष नहीं मानें; लेकिन उन सबकी गणना, प्रारूप और अंतिम आकलन एक ही होता है। समाज का भला विवाद नहीं करते। मानव जाति वैज्ञानिक सोच और तथ्यों को एक मानने से ही आगे बढ़ सकती है।

कितने दिन से और कब से देश में इतना बड़ा वितंडा पैदा कर रखा है। अख़बार के अख़बार रंगे हुए हैं। ख़बरों पर ख़बरें लिखी जा रही हैं। देश में पूरा एक विज्ञान विभाग है, लेकिन जाने वह और उसके अधिकारी क्या करते हैं। हम चंद्रलोक और मंगललोक की यात्रा करने का दम भरते हैं, लेकिन यह तय नहीं कर सकते कि दीवाली कब है। इन तीन पूजनीयों ने एक काग़ज़ पर हस्ताक्षर कर दिए तो कौनसे लोग मान जाएंगे? सरकार को इस तरह के मामलों पर प्रतिबंध लगाना चाहिए और किसी को भी बेतरतीब के पंचांग नहीं छापने देना चाहिए। यह तो दुनिया के समय को ग्रिनविच मीन टाइम्स से तय करते हैं, लेकिन हमारे वाले तय करते तो कोई न कोई यह भी लिख डालता कि सूर्योदय दोपहर तीन बजे से शुरू होगा और अर्ध रात्रि इतने घटी और इतने पल तक चलेगा। जिस देश में राजाओं ने जंतर-मंतर तक बनवाए, वहाँ यह हाल इस देश के ज्योतिषियों की स्थिति को दयनीय दर्शाता है।
