@betanalpha As many have said, I also don't think this is an unpopular opinion. Total survey error framework illustrates some parts of this process (data collection and inference) and having this sort of frameworks greatly helps with statistical modeling.

@rasmansa thanks! yes I did, I had a chess teacher in my high-school days who took exercises like this and told us to work without a chessboard. it does take much more time though.
