Angus Taylor has decided to only help people who don't need help.
People struggling to get a home: He'll undo Labor's solid plan.
People buying multiple established properties: He'll let them continue the housing bubble.
He literally wants homes to become less affordable.
A lot of houses currently being extensively renovated are only going that deep due to asbestos and bad wiring.
Eventually these houses will become rare, so future renos may be a lot more modest. Less $, less time as an uninhabitable building site.
At a time when ocean temperatures are smashing records and scientists are still trying to understand how fast the system is shifting under climate change, they are talking about scrapping a 368 million dollar early warning network that has ALREADY BEEN PAID FOR by tax payers.
This is not just a few sensors in the sea. It is a network of ~900 instruments measuring temperature, currents, carbon, chemistry and ecosystem change. It was designed to deliver long term data over decades.
This would effectively end key long running records and that matters because ocean data only becomes powerful over time. You cannot rebuild a continuous climate record once it is interrupted.
The battery recycling problem is real. It is also being actively solved by an industry that knows it has a problem and is working on it.
What you have just described as your alternative is an energy system that has been dumping arsenic, mercury, lead, chromium and barium into rivers, soil and lungs for 150 years, with no plan to stop, backed by an industry that spent decades paying scientists to say it was fine.
You have identified a legitimate future challenge in green energy and used it to defend an ongoing present catastrophe.
That is not research. That is finding one cloud and using it to argue we should stay indoors forever.
We Are Living in the Dumbest Timeline
Donald Trump just posted a photo of a wind turbine next to birds and captioned it “Killing birds by the millions!”
He posted this without irony.
For every single bird killed by a wind turbine, nuclear and fossil fuel plants kill 2,118 birds. Coal alone kills roughly 7.9 million birds a year in the United States. Wind turbines? Between 140,000 and 328,000. That is not a defence of wind turbines.
We are living in genuinely, historically stupid times. Only rivalled, frankly, by the medieval peasants who blamed the Black Death on cats and promptly killed all the cats, which meant the rats multiplied, which meant more plague.
At least the peasants had the excuse of having no access to information whatsoever.
Trump has the internet. He chose this.
@NickKristof Aid cutbacks, disembowelling of CDC, defunding of scientific research in key areas, has set back the US and the world by many decades. It was short sighted, indicative of an administration which fails to grasp the bigger picture, and the significance of the US as a global player.
Trump, Musk and Rubio slashed aid and scoffed that it was woke nonsense. Now they're seeing that it not only saved one life every 10 seconds but also protected us from diseases like Ebola. Their actions constituted a security failure as well as a moral one.
More broadly, their fecklessness contrasts with the courage and humanity of doctors and aid workers in Congo and Uganda, lacking adequate PPE but still risking the virus to care for fellow humans.
Trump, Musk and Rubio might learn something from them. https://t.co/kPKj7fqJFZ
🚨🇦🇺 BREAKING: Australian filmmaker
Juliet Lamont says Israeli soldiers ripped
off her pants and underwear and she was
raped by one of them in the Israeli prison.
She was on the Flotilla to Gaza to deliver aid.
Will the Australian government speak on this?
@james00000001 He ei t ger wants to replace them with ones with his name on them or it's just another step in the destruction of years of scientific data. he hates science
@volcaholic1 Astronomers still rely on records started centuries ago. Economists obsess over datasets spanning decades. A climate record is valuable because it can still be measuring 30 years from now.
You can save money by shutting it down.
You can't buy back the missing years.
@volcaholic1@patsdunc Where tf is our tax money going when he’s cutting funding for every social/environmental program??? Oh his personal military ICE. Nice job maga voters for fucking up our planet and social systems.
@volcaholic1 This isn’t about saving money. It’s about stifling information that is harmful to Trump’s climate crisis denial, his obsession & promotion of fossil fuels & his irrational hatred of renewables.
@volcaholic1 Why does Trump hate the environment so much? Because he knows he won't be around long and is so hateful, he wants to leave a ruined earth for the rest of us. He's that selfish and vindictive.
