@BlackLeger @GeoRebekah If you’re speaking English, use the meaning of the word in English. If you’re speaking Spanish, use the Spanish word. It’s not that hard. What you’re doing is every bit as offensive and linguistically imperialistic as those English speakers trying to force “Latinx” onto Spanish.

@DMConstantino @ricardocalvar12 @GeoRebekah Respectfully, knowing the actual definitions of the words we use in our native tongue doesn’t make us daft. The Spanish/Portuguese word “latino” correctly translates into English as “Latin”—not “Latino.” It’s a false cognate. “Latino” in English means someone from Latin America.

@DrowsyKeroX @MiguelMadeira11 @GeoRebekah If I were from Spain, I could say “Soy latino,” and that would be accurate. Bye if I said “I’m Latino,” that would be false. The correct translation of “Soy latino” is “I’m Latin.”

That makes “latino” and “Latino” false cognates.
