Like I said, 50 pages or so in so there’s a lot still to come, and I’m loving it, but this is *not* the book that cultural osmosis had told me I was going to be reading.
I’m only 50 pages into Brave New World, but I’m confused that the cultural impact of this book is “having every desire catered for makes you politically apathetic” when I struggle to think of anything other than the babies being conditioned to hate flowers when I pick it up
People talk about it like there’s a “Nineteen Eighty Four” to “Brave New World” spectrum of state violence when this book opens with the systematic abuse of in-vitro embryos required to maintain the social hierarchy, doing things that would make Big Brother pause.
