Housing is the single most urgent social issue facing our country.
Today we announced new targeted measures to unlock unused spaces in cities, towns and villages.
This expansion of our vacancy schemes will turn empty commercial buildings and above-shop spaces into homes.
Last year marked the highest number of new social homes built - in any given year - since the foundation of the state.
In 2025, 9,089 new-build social homes were delivered, an increase of 1,256 homes (16%) compared with 2024.
This is serious momentum that we will build on.
Having considered the Residential Tenancies (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2026, the @PresidentIRL has signed the Bill and it has accordingly become law.
Good news today as the development of the National Monument buildings at 14–17 Moore Street and 8–9 Moore Lane progresses to tender stage & construction.
Moore St stands at the heart of our national story, the place where the final decisions of 1916 were taken.

Over 36,000 new homes completed in 2025.
These are good figures, 20% increase.
They demonstrate in a very tangible way that we do have the capacity to get to the critical mass of housing starts and completions every year that we require.
