@B_E_Bishop@OnTheGoCBC @CityofStJohns @HappyCitySJ Given the amount of time the city considers to be reasonable to have every square foot of road salted is 3 hrs... I would say 3 hrs.
But given the city considers it reasonable to plow every last km of road, but only plows 161km of sidewalk (out of 1,000s)...
@OnTheGoCBC @CityofStJohns @HappyCitySJ Perhaps dumping not the fault of city workers who have to 'fit it in' bc they are 'meant' to be doing something else?
@CityofStJohns Can we conclude from salt-dumping & website that there is no policy ensuring sidewalk ice control (w/i any timeframe after 'ice conditions')?
2/2
@OnTheGoCBC @CityofStJohns @HappyCitySJ I drive & walk. Have noticed how regularly salt applied to roads, but v rarely to sidewalks (& when, often dumped not spread - not helpful, esp to those w ltd mobility).
City website lists street & sidewalk snow-clr'g & street ice-ctrl (w/i 3 hrs of 'ice conditions').

@TRobertst@Tlee1964 @NalcorEnergy No, it double-counts the Labrador-Island Link.
LIL HoldCo is just a Nalcor holding company, the legal entity that owns our share of the LIL Partnership.
Slight differences aside, the HoldCo $4B is the same as the Partnership $4B, representing Nalcor's equity in the Link.
@shanessm@ryanfancey I enjoy playing 'Adeste Fideles (O Come All Ye Faithful)' around Christmastime because when people ask 'What the hell is that?' (as they inevitably do) I can say 'Exactly what it sounds like: Bob Dylan singing a Christmas song in Latin.'
@kirstenmorry@sheridanjmoores I came to comment 'Positively Pipe-like', but you've preempted it...
I would have settled for Circumferentially Surrounded, but then Entirely Encircled came to me.
@sdpope 2 of Oceanex's 3 vessels are roll-on/roll-off carriers, & their parking lots at the mouth of the Waterford are some of the largest in the city.
Done right, Kirsten's idea could both turn Sid Hynes to stone & disrupt the use of vehicle sales as a measure of local economic health!
@divergeorgex@GeorgeMurphyOil You might think 😅but in other jurisdictions (like Ont or Que), EVs' fuel costs are 5-6x cheaper than gas. So, even if MF dbls our rates, electricity would still be far cheaper than gas.
That's only back-of-the-envelope, but @LetsFishSmarter might know the NL situation better
@JeffMuggeridge @GeorgeMurphyOil 3 Lvls of charging stns:
Lvl 1 = ~1km/6mins
(regular 120V outlet)
Lvl 2 = ~1km/min
(spec'ly installed 240V)
Those can be at-home.
Lvl 3 = ~5km/min
Can't be installed at-home, but gov't now installing along TCH & gas (or solely electric) stns will provide these eventually.
@darenjanes@GeorgeMurphyOil@Tesla As pickups are popular here & have the best margins by far, dealerships should take note. Service of EVs is less of a $-maker, but the demand for E-trucks will be there & somebody will fill it.
Who wants to take an over/under on GM & Ford releasing theirs before New Years?
2/2
@darenjanes@GeorgeMurphyOil@Tesla Yes, & the next seismic shift (esp for NL) begins this Friday. Telsa's releasing the 1st electric pickup. GM & Ford have been tailing closely.
EVs produce more torque than ICEs, & Model X can tow ~4,000lbs. But some want >10,000lbs, like F-150s, or just plain want a truck.
1/2
@GeorgeMurphyOil Hm! that's an interesting Q
In other jurisdictions, stns mark-up relative to household rates. I suspect PUB will cap this like it does for gas, but with more stable supply probably less often adjusted.
2 others:
Will margins just be bid down like gas?
Time-of-day pricing?
@GeorgeMurphyOil Some EV buyers won't install Lvl 2, & Lvl 1 (ie, 120V outlet) only charges ~1km/6 mins - strictly overnight option. Sometimes, Lvl 2 owners might need to recharge or prefer the 5x speed
Correct if I'm wrong, but gas stns don't make their $ on gas: it's beer, cigs, & lottery
2/2
@GeorgeMurphyOil I think there will still be some demand for conveniently located Lvl 3 chargers.
80% of EV charging is done at home on Lvl 1 or 2, but given speeds must be planned in advance (often overnight). Lvl 3 can get you ~5km/min of charge. That's vs ~1km/min for Lvl 2.

@KeelingGlen@RNC_PoliceNL@Sdp_Bdv_NL Whether entering & turning are distinct mvmts is hazier.
As you indicated, S 119 suggests a driver may enter (safely) but for whatever reason may not be immediately able to complete the turn (safely).
I think this section resolves right-of-way in a special case. Debateable
