In 1879, Elijah’s Grandson, James E. Pepper moved his late grandfather’s distillery to Lexington, KY, and opened the largest, most technologically advanced distillery of its time of bottling
The distillery stopped production in 1967 when the Kentucky Bourbon industry encountered hard times. The Old Pepper distillery’s legacy was abandoned and forgotten until Amir Peay embarked on a decade-long mission to uncover the history behind James E Pepper Whiskey.
With original recipes, mash builds, and production methods, the distillery was rebuilt and bottled its first barrel since 1967 in 2017. Today you can get a taste of history at the distillery. Check out their full history this #BourbonHeritageMonth on their website!
What better way to kick off Bourbon Heritage Month than with a groundbreaking? 🥃
