@jlslater1979 The tour operators are kind of prepared for it. We got messages saying if anything happened wait for coaches ect. No chaos like the first days of evacuations in the south.
Our hotel was practically empty the past few days as no one arrived but they expected it to be full by Mon.
@jlslater1979 I left on Thursday- but, I can say that it had always been safe in Kolymbia. If it wasn't for the news you wouldn't have even known anything was happening. No smoke, no panic - only blue skies!
I also felt more secure in Kolymbia because IF evacuation notices were given... 1/2
@Meghan__Ryan Honestly I'm not sure, currently is good in Kolympia- clear skies and no smoke. But fires have started heading in out direction and wednesday is forcasted to have wind blowing in this direction.
Personally I'm looking forward to leaving on Thursday just to be safe!
@PompeyKirbs Currrently in my hotel, Imperial Atlantica resort there has been 0 impact.
Occasional power cuts for ~20 seconds but then it kicks back in - not sure if this is on a generator or the grid.
Air con was slightly reduced in power yesterday I believe to reduce power demand
#rhodes New wildfire imagery. 2nd picture data from 22nd. 1st picture 24h at 1am.
Seems to show how the central areas have died down as they burned, leaving the sides on fire. Right (north side) less fire but slight advance
1/2 #rhodesfire
And left side (south of island) fire travelling in line towards coastal areas such as Gennadion.
This data also agrees with my post yesterday showing fires being stronger on left hand side of island.
#Rhodes According to satellite imagery from @CopernicusEU , the fire seems to be more ferocious on the left side of the island. As you can see in the 1st picture the red is stronger on left.
And then in 2nd picture the fire is visible whereas right side seems more extinguished
@alockley1985 I’m heading back on Thursday. Hoping that wind continues going downwards and not north towards us!
Currently it is all as normal here but all it takes is either another fire to start or the wind to shift for everything to go bad here too
@alockley1985 Potentially. Occasional power cuts at this hotel but only for a few seconds. Perhaps they have a generator.
Air con has been partially turned off today though
@alockley1985 Where I am on the beach of kolymbia you wouldn’t even know something is wrong if it wasn’t for the news or bit of haze in the distance.
Could very easily change though by Friday
