Standing in solidarity with the students of Kyambogo University who were violently arrested, detained, charged with 'unlawful assembly', and arbitrarily suspended from the University as soon as they were granted bail. Their crime? Holding a peaceful protest advocating for a fair tuition policy.

Instead of seeking dialogue with and solutions to the students' grievances, the University instead chose to suspend them as well as their Guild President, Benjamin Akiso! They have missed exams, and even when they ran to the High Court for reprieve, they didn't find any.

We condemn this highhanded conduct by Kyambogo —an academic institution that is supposed to play a key role in upholding and advancing citizens' fundamental freedoms, including their freedom to protest peacefully. Definitely, this repression represents a bigger crisis, and we must all work together to reset our nation.

Five members of our advance team to Kamuli were arrested yesterday and spent the night at Kamuli Central Police station! These include Sarah Mukisa, Rahmah Jumah, Bobi Rash Sentamu, Shafi Adams and Maga Jacobz. They were found at a restaurant in Kamuli town and arrested. While our teams work hard to secure their release, we condemn the impunity and high-handedness by the partisan security agencies. FREE OUR PEOPLE. They did not commit any offence.

They have so far arrested over twenty comrades including part of our advance team and some journalists. They are being held at Kamuli Central Police station. Whereas we notified the police and fulfilled every lawful requirement, they have immediately started frustrating our events!
