For the combat and boss songs in this album, I took inspiration from the rhythm sections of Mario RPG. I wanted to experiment with making high energy situations without heavy or stacked instruments, so I used heavy syncopation and a melody that builds tension throughout

Here, I made the composition more sparse. The lead has heavy reverb as to sound more distant as if one’s consciousness were fading. The rhythm, while minimal, is designed to mimic scratchy breath, scuttling steps, and heavy heartbeat all in one.

This song is made of 3-4 usable levels, and it has a paired song in the album (that will be posted next week) which is rearranged with lower energy to demonstrate low health (this piece also has 3-4 usable levels).
