There is a bush fire burning west of Oyster Cove towards James Road, Medowie. Those between James Road & Coachwood Drive, and Moffats Swamp should leave if not prepared before conditions become too dangerous. #RFS

This morning I did an interview on ABC NSW on the fires up on the Mid North Coast. A question to finish the interview that the host asked, was “What was your favourite part of 2025?”
It got me thinking….
2025 has been a year that you blink, and it’s gone. Hard to believe it’s the last day of the year. It’s be a year of job changes, moving house, health struggles and new family members.
It’s been a year of more positive than negative. Moving to a new place in Berowra surrounded by great neighbours and being around the corner from family who I get to see more than ever.
A great nearly 12 months back in the media unit with a great team who are well experienced and committed to their roles, in particular to support and showcase the great work our volunteers do for their communities. The team’s number 1 priory, equal to keeping the communities informed of bushfires.
As we move in to the final hours of 2025, I just want to take a moment to thank those that have been apart of the various journeys, those that have supported me in the changes for home and for work, and those that are a mentor and continue to shape me and the direction of my career.
I hope you all have an amazing finish to the year that was, and best wishes for the year that will be.
Eleven areas of NSW will be under a Total Fire Ban tomorrow, Wednesday 26 November, due to hot, dry and windy conditions. Catastrophic fire danger is forecast for the Lower Central West Plains. These are the most dangerous conditions for a fire. https://t.co/R9tDns8ts6
Callsign ‘Bomber 210’ - the @NSWRFS Large Air Tanker ‘Maree Bashir’ making history this morning being the first passenger sized aircraft landing at the new Western Sydney airport in Badgerys Creek.
Day for it! Great effort by the crews in the Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai District, who today undertook a hazard reduction burn on Milson Island with not a single fire truck; a few boats, but all done by hose lay, portable pumps and McLeod tools. #nswrfs
As several storms sweep across NSW this afternoon, there has been a report of a tornado near Young. These images were captured by a #RFS fire tower looking to the northwest of Young.
Firefighters remain on scene today at the Kurrajong Hills structure fire. Crews are extinguishing remaining hotspots, supported by heavy machinery. Fire Investigators from RFS, @nswpolice and @FRNSW are investigating the cause and origin of the fire. #nswrfs
Over the past few weeks, the RFS Media and Communications team has been on the road delivering annual media training across NSW - two weeks in regional areas and one week in Sydney.
This training is designed for journalists, reporters, camera operators, producers, editors, and chiefs of staff. It gives media personnel the tools and knowledge they need to report safely and effectively when covering bush fires in NSW.
From learning about bush fire behaviour and remote area safety, through to understanding how to work with the RFS and where to source the latest bush fire information; this training ensures the media can keep communities informed, while staying safe around the fireground and our firefighters.
Around 200 media professionals took part across nine locations - and yes, there were even some fluffy puppy dogs to meet and ‘big icons’ to see along the way.
While the media is sometimes seen in a negative light, the truth is we rely on each other. A strong, trusted working relationship between the RFS and the media is vital. When fires are burning, the media helps us deliver timely, relevant, and tailored information to the communities who need it most. It also helps build strong relationships and trust between these vital people and our media team when needed the most.

As the sun sets, #NSWRFS crews continue supporting @NSWSES in areas including Gunnedah, with flooding & storm response.
Rain may have eased, but flood risks remain. Call SES on 132 500 or if Life-threatening, call Triple 000. Helitak 203 @ Tamworth on standby tonight. 📸 Brad H.
RFS aircraft are supporting @NSWSES with flood rescues and intel gathering across central and northern NSW. Rain is easing, but strong winds may bring falling trees. Don’t drive through floodwater. If it’s flooded, forget it. For help, call 132 500 or Triple Zero in an emergency.
