NEWS // C20 has objected to the proposed demolition of the glazed riverside extension to W.H.Smith, at 39-41 Coney Street in York - a little-known gem in the city's modern built-heritage.

Designed by architect Eric GV Hives & Sons in 1978, it was described at the time of opening as ‘an ingenious reconciliation of old and new’; affording glimpses of the original Georgian houses via a glazed atrium, and the opportunity to relax and read on stepped terraces overlooking the River Ouse.
