@Qantas this has been incredibly frustrating.
We had flight credits from a cancelled Bali trip and used the Qantas online booking system to apply those credits towards a domestic trip to the Gold Coast. We booked around a month ago and specifically structured the booking to use our available flight credits.
Today, just days before we fly this Saturday, we received an email saying our payment had declined.
After calling Qantas, we were told we now owe an additional 30% of our child’s fare because the original international child fare was charged at 70%, whereas the domestic child fare is 100%.
At NO POINT during the booking process was this additional amount shown, flagged or requested. The Qantas system accepted our flight credits and allowed us to complete the booking.
We were told a manager would call us back within an hour. No one did.
We then spoke with Thamsa from the accounts/refunds team, who told us that international flight credits cannot be used for domestic flights, despite the Qantas booking system allowing us to do exactly that.
When my wife began reading the terms of our Qantas flight credit to her and asking where it stated that the credit couldn’t be used domestically, Thamsa stated I’ll just rebook your flights and add the additional costs to it. What kind of scam is this?
My wife continued trying to clarify the terms of the credit, and Thamsa then hung up on us.
So, days before travelling with our children, we have:
• An additional payment we were never shown when booking
• Conflicting information from Qantas staff
• A promised manager callback that never happened
• Been told our flights could be rebooked at additional cost
• Been hung up on while reading Qantas’s own flight-credit terms
Our flight is THIS SATURDAY.
@Qantas can someone please urgently take ownership of this and resolve it?
We followed your booking process. Your system accepted the flight credits. The booking was confirmed.
If the credits weren’t eligible, or an additional amount was payable, why did your system allow us to complete the booking and why are we only being told about this a month later, 48 hours before departure?
