After #Allahabad High Court Verdict, Maulana #Mahmood Madani Slams Government for Ignoring #Supreme Court’s Tehseen Poonawala Directives

New Delhi, October 18, 2025: Maulana Mahmood Madani, President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, has appreciated the recent judgment of the Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Bench, in Rahul Yadav vs. State of Uttar Pradesh (Criminal Case No. 9567/2025), describing it as a timely and eye-opening reminder of the erosion of law and order amid the growing menace of mob violence and cow vigilantism.

The Court, while quashing an FIR filed by the Pratapgarh Police in an alleged case of cow slaughter, observed that mob violence has now become order of the day, reflecting the failure of the rule of law. It further noted that instead of protecting victims, the police have been registering false cases against victim, thereby promoting anarchy and deepening social divisions.

Maulana Madani stated that Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has consistently raised its voice against lawlessness in the name of gau raksha and the targeting of innocent people. He recalled that Jamiat had filed a petition in the Supreme Court wherein the Apex Court issued binding directions to all governments to curb mob lynching and cow vigilantism on the line of Tehseen S. Poonawalla vs. Union of India (2018) judgment,. However, the continued inaction of state authorities, he said, has emboldened vigilante groups and encouraged a culture of impunity.

Maulana Madani further remarked that “nothing is more dangerous to a democratic nation than state-sponsored communalism. It undermines the very foundation of our Constitution and erodes public faith in justice and equality.”
Referring to the High Court’s detailed observations, he noted that the Court has once again reiterated the mandatory directions of the Tehseen Poonawalla judgment—appointment of District Nodal Officers, formation of Special Task Forces, establishment of fast-track courts for lynching cases, and disciplinary proceedings against delinquent officials. Yet, instead of implementing these measures through a formal government order, the Uttar Pradesh Police merely issued a circular, which the Court found inadequate. The Court emphasized that under Article 162 of the Constitution, a comprehensive state policy is essential, and compliance with Supreme Court orders under Article 141 is mandatory and binding.

Maulana Madani further said that there can be no justification whatsoever for lawlessness, the violation of constitutional rights. The misuse of cow protection laws, biased policing, and false prosecutions have created an environment of fear, injustice, and inequality. “The High Court has rightly held the government accountable and directed it to submit an explanation within three weeks,” he added.

In conclusion, Maulana Madani urged both the Central and Uttar Pradesh Governments to act with constitutional sensitivity and a sense of responsibility. He called for the immediate and full implementation of the Tehseen Poonawala guidelines, strict legal action against cow vigilantes, and an end to the harassment and criminalization of innocent citizens.

New Delhi, 23 September 2025: Under the guidance of Maulana Mahmood Madani, President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, a massive relief operation was launched today from the Jamiat Relief Centre in Ludhiana. A convoy of 30 trucks carrying relief materials worth approximately ₹50 lakh departed for the flood-affected districts of Punjab.
The convoy, led by Maulana Mohammad Yahya Karimi, General Secretary Jamiat Ulama Haryana, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh, is headed to Sultanpur Lodhi, Kapurthala, Ajnala, Tarn Taran, Fazilka, Gurdaspur, Firozpur, Ludhiana, and other severely affected areas.
At the flag-off ceremony, senior Jamiat officials, Punjab government ministers, social and political leaders, and a large gathering of Sikh community members expressed solidarity. Local Sikh brothers warmly praised Jamiat’s humanitarian spirit, saying, “When we see the flag with white and black stripes, we immediately know that this caravan has come to help and befriend us.”
Speaking through a message read out at the event, Maulana Mahmood Madani reiterated that Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind considers service to humanity a sacred duty, beyond all distinctions of caste, creed, or religion. He said, “The entire world is the family of Allah, and the best human being is the one who loves His family. We stand firmly with our Sikh brothers in this hour of need. The real Helper is our Creator—we are merely His servants, and this effort is solely for the pleasure of Allah. Sikhs are globally known for their service to humanity, and those who help others are helped by Allah through His chosen servants.”
Providing details of the operation, Maulana Karimi informed that under the supervision of Maulana Mohammad Hakeemuddin Qasmi, General Secretary of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, a dedicated team from Mewat—including Mufti Mohammad Saleem, Mufti Arif (Ludhiana), Haji Naushad Alam of Ludhiana, youths from Jamiat Youth Club, and Jamiat officials from Western UP and Gujarat—has been working on the ground in flood-hit areas. This team will continue his efforts until relief and rehabilitation needs are fully met.

Later in the day, the convoy received a warm reception in Sultanpur Lodhi, where Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal (Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha) extended a special vote of thanks to Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani and lauded the humanitarian services of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind in the highest terms.

*Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind objects to Supreme Court’s View on ‘Waqf by User’, warns protection of mosques and Graveyards at Stake*
New Delhi, September 15, 2025: Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind President, Maulana Mahmood Madani, has expressed deep concern over the Supreme Court’s interim order on the Waqf Act 2025, stating that the Court’s remarks on “Waqf by User” are particularly alarming and demand serious attention.
Maulana Madani noted that Jamiat had raised several critical concerns before the Court, including the extraordinary powers granted to Collectors and administrative officers to determine the nature of Waqf properties, and the abolition of Waqf Tribunals. Such provisions, he said, open the door for state interference in religious affairs. It is therefore welcome that the Supreme Court has stayed these provisions and offered partial relief in some concerned clauses. Yet, he emphasized, the most fundamental issue remains the fate of “Waqf by User.”
Citing official data, Maulana Madani explained that India has more than 400,000 Waqf properties classified under “Waqf by User,” including around 119,000 mosques and 150,000 graveyards. More than 80 percent of these are unregistered. The recent amendment has completely abolished the concept of “Waqf by User,” while merely exempting properties already registered — a cosmetic adjustment that fails to resolve the core concern.
Maulana Madani stressed that removing “Waqf by User” from the law amounts to rejecting Islamic jurisprudence and centuries-old religious practice. This, he said, directly undermines the religious rights of Muslims guaranteed by the Constitution of India. Jamiat has always maintained that Waqf is a purely religious issue, and no legislation should contain provisions that compromise its religious character or obstruct the right to religious freedom. For this reason, he asserted, the interim order cannot be considered satisfactory until “Waqf by User” is fully safeguarded.
Expressing regret, he added that the Court’s remarks in paragraphs 143–152 of its order have further complicated the issue, placing mosques and graveyards in particular jeopardy. The Court observed that abolition of “Waqf by User” is not prima facie arbitrary, since the requirement of registration has existed since the Waqf Act of 1923. The bench held that if Waqf properties remained unregistered for over a century, no complaint can be entertained now.
Maulana Madani concluded by affirming that Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, together with its legal team and community institutions, will continue this struggle with seriousness and wisdom to ensure the protection of religious freedom and minority rights guaranteed by the Constitution of India.

मौलाना मदनी ने कहा कि जहां तक मस्जिदों का मामला है तो मूल तथ्य यह है कि ज्ञानवापी और मथुरा आदि मामलों में निर्णय लेने का अधिकार संबंधित मस्जिद कमेटियों का है, जो इन मामलों में शरीयत और क़ानूनी रूप से पक्षकार हैं और उनके पास शरीयत के दायरे में रहते हुए किसी से भी संवाद करने का अधिकार है। जहां तक मथुरा के मामले का संबंध है, वहां 1968 में औपचारिक रूप से अदालत की निगरानी में शाही ईदगाह कमेटी और श्���ी कृष्ण जन्मस्थान सेवा संघ के बीच मामले के निपटारे पर आधारित समझौता हो चुका है। इसलिए, वहां कोई वास्तविक विवाद नहीं है और होना भी नहीं चाहिए।

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, India’s largest Muslim organisation, expresses deep sorrow over the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash that claimed many lives and devastated families.

President Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani said, “This heartbreaking incident has left families in unimaginable grief. Words fall short—only prayers and sincere empathy can bring comfort.”

He prayed for the deceased, strength for the bereaved, and recovery for the injured, while urging the government to provide immediate and full support to affected families.

Maulana Madani also directed Jamiat units nationwide to reach out and assist grieving families.

“Jamiat stands with the victims—not just in sympathy, but in service and solidarity,” he affirmed.
