As I review #ABCTNOW abstracts, I wonder what value a "convention theme" really adds to the quality of presentations accepted. The authors often have to stretch to make their research seem relevant to the theme, and I feel stuck as a reviewer having to downgrade good work.

@SauerZavala Right? I think we could still highlight topics of interest in the Call for Papers but drop the need to create increasingly specific themes. I really appreciated when a presenter answered the question "how does your submission fit the conference theme" by saying "It doesn't."

I don't think most attendees really care what the theme is when they're at the conference, either.
