How this decision will fare if it is appealed to the Supreme Court remains to be seen. The Roberts Court has overturned many campaign finance rules. OTH, the DC Circuit is arguably just doing what the Supreme Court has extolled repeatedly this past term: compelling a federal agency to adhere to the law instead of making up new rules in its own.

I'm so proud that @NotPoliticians volunteers collected 170,000 signatures to get Prop 22-2 on the ballot. The proposal brought MI nine days of early voting, a single application for mailed ballots, drop boxes, and much more. Love getting an A+ for Michigan voters!

After years of stalled movement, MI began implementing pro-voter policies that voters overwhelmingly supported in the “Promote the Vote” ballot initiatives passed during the 2018 and 2022 general elections

Voters demanded a fair, transparent redistricting process. The court’s ruling doesn’t change that. Michiganders deserve elections where every vote counts and every voice is heard. We must support this process that puts voters, @NotPoliticians, in charge. /end

The voter-approved constitutional amendment also clearly requires that maps be adopted only by the MICRC, including court-ordered remedial maps. Michigan voters approved this process because they were tired of self-interested politicians drawing lines to their own benefit. 4/

This commission has faced challenges, but I’m confident they’re ready and able to take on the task in front of them. They can - and must - adopt maps that allow historically marginalized communities to elect candidates of their choice, while maintaining partisan fairness. 5/

Voters decided that an independent commission should draw our district maps following strict criteria, starting with federal requirements including the Voting Rights Act. The commission is also required to draw maps that don’t benefit any political party. 3/

Next week, the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission (MICRC) will start redrawing maps for seven state house districts, as ordered by a three-judge federal panel. They are required to follow the constitutional process overwhelmingly approved by voters in '18. 2/
