There's a belief that the rift between Dylan Larkin and Steve Yzerman began after Henrik Zetterberg retired, and Larkin wasn't named Red Wings captain for over 2 years 👀🫣

Dylan Cease is the first Blue Jays pitcher to start the ASG since Roy Halladay (2009). Cristopher Sánchez is the first Phillies pitcher to start the ASG since ... Roy Halladay (2011).
Speaking to an #NHL Exec…he suggests if a player negotiates a no-trade or a no move clause in their contract but then requests to be traded prior to the expiration of their deal, the NTC should be voided and the team should be allowed to trade the player to any team in the league.
In 2028, Dylan Larkin's full NTC shifts to a 10 team trade list. He should just shift to that 10 team trade list now if he really wants to be moved. Seems like the logical move 🤷🏼♂️

The decision to shut down SN650 is seismic. Losing another major sports media voice in Vancouver is a devastating loss.
That station has produced an incredible amount of talent and gave so many young voices a platform.
A sad day for sports media in this city.
The Leo Carlsson offer sheet is NOT about cap space or about the Ducks' ability (Henry Samueli's specifically) ability to afford a match. Rather, it's all about the Ducks' business operations model itself.
According to Forbes Magazine, the Ducks operating income for 2025-26 was $26 million. Operating income is earnings before expenses, taxes, depreciation, amortization, etc.)
If the Ducks match the Carlsson offer sheet. it will take a $20.8 million chunk out of their FY 2027 operating budget. They also have to plan for Cutter Gauthier and eventually Becket Sennecke contracts (which would undoubtedly include a huge front-loaded bonus structure if they make an exception for Carlsson).
THAT is the crux of the offer sheet. The Ducks can match (and I still think they will) but it means tearing up their entire way of doing business; and letting a competitor dictate it. That's why it's not a no-brainer that they match. Also not a no-brainer that they don't.
With Mintyukov signing for around $7.4M AAV, if the Ducks match the Carlsson $18M AAV offer sheet, that gives Anaheim less than $10M in cap space, which won't be enough for Gauthier... if all 3 stay, Ducks have moves to make.
Jason Robertson has until 4 p.m. CT today to file for arbitration.
If that’s where this is headed, Robertson and the Stars could end up reaching a one-year deal that walks him straight into unrestricted free agency next summer.
With any offer sheet signed, there is always an inherent question: Does this player want to be here?
What must be part of Anaheim's calculus now with an AAV of this magnitude is whether that's the case with Carlsson. The more calls I make, the more I believe that's in question.
It’s an insane contract offer. Period. If the Ducks match, it puts them in a bind to get Gauthier and Sennecke at a decent number. If the Flyers land him, what does the next deal look like when he’s 26/27?
I understand there's a rising cap, but to put this number into context, this would be like offering someone for 5x$15.4 in the offseason before the pandemic. Carlsson's a really good young player, but man...
If all of this wasnt enough... Flyers snuck in a full No Trade Clause in the final year, only season eligible, for good measure. This contract is a dream for an agent walking a young NHL star into UFA. Awesome stuff by Danny Briere, a nightmare for Pat Verbeek #IgniteTheOrange
Rising cap and cost of 1/2 centers across the NHL only serves to further drive home the high value that Dylan Larkin (and his $8.7 million cap hit for 5 more years) brings.
You'd be hard-pressed to add a top center at better value, and it won't cost 4 1sts to acquire him. #LGRW
Dany Briere to Cutter “hey bud, have fun playing with 4 first rounders now… oh, and if the ducks keep Leo, good luck trying to get your payday with the cap….”
One extra layer to the offer sheet situation that has been coming up around the league:
The matching team can’t trade the player for 12 months. But if the offering team lands the player, they can move him
There’s growing belief that clubs may explore offer sheets as a backdoor trade path: sign here, we’ll get you where you want to go, and then get more than the offer-sheet compensation we gave up
TRADE: The Red Wings have acquired forward Keegan Kolesar from the Golden Knights for a third round pick in 2029 and a seventh round pick in 2027, reports @DarrenDreger
