We are excited to announce that Project Donghwa is now live! This project embraces a playful, yet intentional approach, using characters and elements that many Korean folktales tend to use— specifically donghwas (childhood stories) that we grew up with. Rather than presenting a fixed or singular interpretation, Project Donghwa allows meaning to emerge naturally through process and collaboration.

“백지장도 맞들면 낫다”

After deep reflection and discussion related to the nationwide strike and other places facing violence within their immediate communities, we've decided to postpone the launching of Project Donghwa.

At the core of this project, Project Donghwa represents the Korean proverb, “백지장도 맞들면 낫다”, which translates to, “Even lifting a sheet of white paper is better when done together”. Though a sheet of paper is light, the proverb emphasizes the value of shared effort and collective participation.

Seeing how this project highlights the importance of collaboration, community, and collective effort— areas where we both strongly advocate for—, we concluded that it only made sense to come to this decision. If we want a village, we need to take on the active role of being a villager.
