NEW: 🇵🇱 Poland’s National Prosecutor’s Office has found that the Pegasus spyware system used by the country’s previous government was not fully under the control of Polish security agencies, potentially allowing its Israeli manufacturer, NSO Group, to access sensitive data collected from Polish citizens.

According to prosecutors, an analysis by Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) found that NSO Group could access infrastructure used to process and store operational data. Information transmitted through the system was also leaving Polish territory.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk called the findings a crime against the state and described the affair as one of the biggest scandals in Poland’s history since the fall of communism.

Tusk warned that sensitive information belonging to thousands, potentially tens of thousands, of Polish citizens could have been exposed to a foreign country without adequate control. He also claimed there was no doubt that Pegasus manufacturer NSO Group cooperated with Israeli security services.

Pegasus is a powerful surveillance tool capable of accessing mobile phones and extracting messages, browsing history and location data. Depending on the capabilities deployed, it can also access microphones and cameras.

The spyware was purchased under the previous Law and Justice (PiS) government, which has faced allegations that it was used to monitor political opponents, journalists and other public figures. The former administration denies wrongdoing, arguing that Pegasus was necessary for national security and used with court approval.

Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek said the system’s use endangered Poland’s national security. A parliamentary inquiry has also heard that judges who authorised surveillance were not fully informed about Pegasus’s capabilities.

I spent 15+ years investigating Russian secret services and organized crime. I know people who served with Putin in the KGB and sat in on his deals with St. Petersburg crime bosses. So let me explain the "diesel deal" the way they would — in gangster slang. Because that's the language Putin actually thinks in.

First, the facts.

Putin just raised Russia's 2027 military budget by 27% to a record 17.1 trillion rubles — about $203 billion. Who budgets that kind of money for a war they're about to end?

The FT reported yesterday that Western intelligence has warned the heads of European defense companies that Russia is plotting to assassinate them.

Since September, Tusk, Macron and the intelligence services of Poland, Czechia, Latvia, Belgium, France and Denmark have all warned that Russian hybrid attacks — including drone and missile strikes — will intensify in the coming months.

None of this looks like a country preparing for peace.

Who actually benefits?

🇺🇸 What the US gets: Every serious analysis I've read says the announced volumes won't move American diesel prices. This is a PR move for Trump before the midterms — a story about prices that will "very, very soon" come down once his friend Vladimir's tankers reach US shores, plus the chance to claim he ended another war (I've lost count). The only US "benefit" is Trump's rating.

🇷🇺 What Russia gets: billions of dollars to keep funding its genocidal war against Ukrainians. Sanctions relief. A demonstration of power to the rest of the world. A deeper rift between the US and its European allies. And a real chance to disrupt US weapons and intelligence flowing to Ukraine.

So what is Putin's actual goal?

Trump's disapproval is at record highs and polls show his party will most likely loose midterm elections. In less than a month his power will be badly weakened. Why would Putin sign a long-term peace deal with a lame duck whose signature will soon be scrutinized at best and annulled at worst?

He wouldn't. And here's where the slang comes in.

In the eyes of Putin and his siloviki, Trump is a baryga — a greedy, unscrupulous businessman who puts profit above law and principle. Gangsters despise barygas, but they love using them. The goal is always to turn a baryga into a lokh — a mark, an outsider who doesn't understand the rules of the underworld and gets played to serve the gang's interests.

By signing the diesel deal, Putin plays two scenarios at once:

A) The deal miraculously helps his lokh keep power — great.

B) The deal changes nothing, the baryga loses the midterms — but by then it has already done its job: inflamed US political tensions and acted as arson inside the American system.

Putin knows that the majority of Americans support Ukraine. He knows that by signing, Trump draws unprecedented criticism, including from his own party. And he knows a baryga won't give up power easily, because he will have to answer for everything he did in office — this deal included. That's classic gangster/secret-service method: tie a man to your organization, make him a partner in your crimes, so he can't walk away.

Pouring more oil — diesel, in this case — onto the most explosive fault lines of American politics, raising the stakes for Trump and pushing him past the point of no return serves Putin far better than a peace deal that could be voided within months.

Remember: Putin's goal in the West is chaos, not peace.

Uvidíte a uslyšíte v něm šestiletou holčičku Romi. Teroristé z Hamásu zavraždili oba její rodiče, Odayu a Doleva Suissovy. Tatínka postřelili na útěku a ještě téhož dne zraněním podlehl v nemocnici. Maminku zastřelili v autě spolu s Amerem Abú Sabílou, beduínem, který se je pokusil odvézt do bezpečí. Dvou malých dcer na zadním sedadle, Romi (6) a Lii (3), si ale nevšimli.

Romi stáhla Liu na podlahu, zalehla ji vlastním tělem a obě přikryla dekou, takže je teroristé přehlédli. Když pak uviděla, jak se k autu blíží další ozbrojení muži, nejprve je prosila, aby ji a její sestřičku nezabíjeli.

Jakmile ale v odpověď uslyšela hebrejštinu, zeptala se: „Vy jste policie? Vy jste z Izraele?“ A když policisté přisvědčili, zlomil se jí hlas a rozplakala se: „Vezměte nás, vezměte nás s sebou…“ A byly zachráněny.

Její zlomený hlas mi zní v uších…

Nejmladší známou obětí masakru ze 7. října byla Naama Abu Rašíd. Žila jen čtrnáct hodin.

Její matka Sudžúd, izraelská Beduínka v devátém měsíci těhotenství, jela s manželem v porodních bolestech do nemocnice Soroka v Beerševě. U křižovatky Magen jejich auto zasypali palbou palestinští teroristé. Sudžúd zasáhla střela do břicha a Naama byla zraněna ještě v děloze.

Lékaři bojovali o život obou. Naama se narodila živá, po čtrnácti hodinách ale zemřela.

Džihádistům z kultu smrti nezáleželo na tom, že její rodina byla arabská a muslimská. Nezáleželo jim ani na tom, že Naama byla sotva narozené miminko.

Až si budeme připomínat životy, které 7. říjen ukradl, pamatujme i na její jméno.

Kauza FAU v číslech a faktech: Firma do zásahu státu odvedla na daních cca 17,8 miliardy Kč. V září 2016 dostala 6 zajišťovacích a 6 exekučních příkazů a v prosinci skončila v úpadku.

Následovalo téměř desetileté trestní stíhání. V roce 2026 soud FAU a Vojtěcha Csabiho zprostil obžaloby, protože nebylo prokázáno, že skutek spáchali.

A další zásadní detail: soud označil znalecký posudek, o který se obžaloba opírala, za nepoužitelný. Podle písemného rozsudku měla znalkyně také 12 exekucí.

Do toho existuje známá nahrávka Andreje Babiše se slovy „naši na FAU zaklekli“. FAU přitom vlastnila sklad a vlečku v areálu Prechezy, tehdy patřící do Agrofertu. Babiš vždy odmítal, že by Finanční či Celní správu zneužíval nebo úkoloval.

Tohle není politický slogan. Tohle je časová osa případu, o kterém by se mělo mluvit.

Separatisté vedení „zelenými mužíčky“ jako vždy porušili 17. září příměří a zahájili masivní dělostřelecký i pěší útok. Prolomili linii na řece Gumista a město Suchumi zcela obklíčili. Po jeho pádu rozpoutali etnické čistky. Počet zavražděných se pouze odhaduje – hovoří se až o 10 000 obětech.

Zatímco se svět jen přihlížel, jak tisíce uprchlíků umírají a další desetitisíce mrznou při útěku přes horské průsmyky, Ukrajinci pomáhali.

Dne 10. října ukrajinští piloti v hrdinské záchranné misi provedli 291 letů se 17 vrtulníky. Zachránili 7 643 životů a doručili 487 tun humanitární pomoci. Jejich statečnost v nejtemnějším okamžiku moderních gruzínských dějin zůstává navždy zapsána v historii. 🇺🇦

Mimochodem, podobnou odvahu předvedli Ukrajinci i v Jugoslávii, kde ukrajinský mírový kontingent jako jediný kladl odpor v enklávě Žepa – jen 20 km od zmasakrované Srebrenice. Ukrajinský velitel Myroslav Sivak vedl obranu v úplném obklíčení tak dlouho, dokud nevyjednal bezpečný odchod civilistů. Zachránil tak tisíce životů. Ale to je příběh, který si detailněji připomeneme jindy.

Nesmíme zapomenout ani na gruzínské hrdiny. Od roku 2014, a především od roku 2022, dostali gruzínští bojovníci 🇬🇪 příležitost tuto statečnost Ukrajině oplatit. Stovky až tisíce z nich padly při nasazení v těch nejbrutálnějších střetech. Do boje šli s modlitbou na rtech a Rusové mnohdy utíkali už z čistého strachu z jejich bojového pokřiku.

Tenhle příspěvek tedy nelze zakončit jinak:
