Dr Daniel Gikonyo told the Milimani High Court today that extreme stress triggered Takotsubo syndrome, broken heart syndrome, in former DP Rigathi Gachagua during his Oct 2024 impeachment, mimicking a heart attack.

Cross-examined by state lawyers, the cardiologist stood by his affidavit, confirming Gachagua suffered severe chest pains and underwent urgent heart scans. Dr Gikonyo also defended a system log error showing a 31-day stay, insisting Gachagua was discharged after three days. This follows revelations that President Ruto phoned him directly to verify the illness.
