History professor, Austen fanatic, writer, vocalist, seamstress, actress, Anglophile, ice cream addict, dancer, and Catholic, not necessarily in that order.
Incidentally, the event in question is a Valentine's Ball in Petersburg, Virginia. If you'd be interested in more info, you can find it here! https://t.co/i4m15i3Hm6
Finished a new Regency dress last weekend, but until I've worn it to the event for which it was intended, I'll just post a teaser pic, because I am also very pleased with my hair.
You know what? I listened to this yesterday for the first time since recording it, and lo! I actually sound more articulate than I could have hoped for. Please lend it an ear and pass it around. Dance, costume, & life-changing memories of Colonial Williamsburg all feature.
My anxiety is getting the better of me, disrupting my sleep and stressing my body. I would appreciate some prayers that I might leave this in God's hands, accept His will, and trust in his comfort.
The poster for the upcoming Wuthering Heights film is so shockingly classic, it could easily be a colorized photo from the golden age of cinema. However, its momentarily-pleasing aesthetic is still a woefully insufficient inducement to suffer through the movie itself.
I feel as though, if I lived in Britain, I could get in on this "celebrity historian" thing. Somehow, Americans don't have it mastered to the same level.
My CSPAN lecture must be airing frequently again, because in the past week I've gotten two complimentary messages of thanks and one telling me I was promoting hatred of America. Go figure.
@SunnySideUp2517 If she isn't already aware of the resources available from the good folks at Let Them Live, maybe it's an option she'd be willing to investigate: https://t.co/sHSoIbwsy9
Reviewing assigned readings for tomorrow's class and struck once again by the coincidence that two of the most beloved Governors of Virginia during the colonial period were both Berkeleys: first, my fake husband Sir William, and a century later, Lord Botetourt.
@ibmmiller Oooh, this is a fascinating idea, and I'd say it's true of me as well. That was the age at which I first discovered Austen, but I also read the Redwall series and The Scarlet Pimpernel, which were absolutely formative.
@dlongenecker1 YES! I've visited several of the houses in which he's presumed to have constructed the priest-holes, and Harvington Hall was especially memorable. But that car....you'll basically be living my dream vacation! And I want to live it vicariously. Please write about it!
I don't want to speak too soon, but I'm starting to make some progress on my Bacon's Rebellion script, and my enthusiasm for the project has reignited. Admittedly, I'm only on Act I Sc III, but stay tuned!
I am a grown-up, a history professor, and a museum professional, yet I still cannot face the prospect of writing a concluding paragraph and will procrastinate with pretty much anything else first.
